I habe got core i7 system yesterday. Whenever cpu fan speed gets more than 2400rpm , I get faint beep sound. What do I do now?

which mobo ? and where does the sound come from ? which psu and card ?

msi eclipse board, corsair tx750w psu.
I think it's coming from cpu fan, as it starts when cpu fan speed get > 2400

in windows , run stress test like prime95 or occt , and see the temp using coretemp and fanspeed using speedfan , mobo can also beep if the cpu temps go high . try reinstalling the heatsink also .

cpu temperature remains less than 40 and beep still occurs(it seems dependent only on cpu fan speed not the temperature). with prime 95 temperature does go up, around 70, core temps above 80. Reinstalling would require me to clean and reapply thermal paste, right?

I faced this problem with my earlier pentium 4 PC. I am not using that system now. I think it's time for you to upgrade the heat sink.

I am planning to buy a new PC and will ask assembler to use the sink which I opt for.

Before you buy anything you will have to find out what is the exact issue. Assemblers will obviously say yes to make money. You are in a technical forum, atleast you should powercycle and find where the problem arises?

I need to ask certain questions. Let's start from the basics:

# Is it beeping sound or is making a hiss sound because of the fans spinning?

# Can you give an idea about your complete configuration?

# Have you check if the pushpins are inserted on the board properly?

Why would you care?? Is it loud enough for you to notice. Mostly everybody on this forum seems jumpy about extra heatsinks. Yeah my processor life may go up n what not, but after 3 years its obsolete. Why spend like 5K on it for a shiny piece of metal??

Anyway I doubt they fit a speaker in it, you should ask for a replacement from Intel.

No troubleshooting has been done, I doubt that is the wise advice to give right now. We dont even know if he has open the sidepanel and confirmed whether its the case fan or cpu fan :P. We are also not sure if the case has proper ventilation as well.

i am not sure about this but ...

If you are not sure, what's the point in telling that without confirming? Advising with half the knowledge is as dangerous as advising without any knowledge- maybe even worse.

Sorry for replying late. My system works without any problem, even when I get the beep sound. It's very faint, but irritating definitely.
I have checked it with a cardboard rolled, it's from the cpu fan nothing else. At idle, if I put the fan at lower speeds, there's no sound, Only when it's speed gets more than 2400.
It's faint beep sound, not fan hiss sound, hiss sound is there with almost all my fans :).
I have got HAF 932, I don't think it's ventilation problem, yes did proper cable management.

This issue seems fairly unique to you, even on the MSI boards :P

Disconnect your PC Speaker (The teenie weenie cabinet speaker connected directly to the motherboard) and verify if the beep is still audible.

As you have already verified that the beeps go away when u stop the fan manually, it is defi linked to the fan. Next is to isolate the origin of the sound :D

If you can still hear the sound after removing PC speaker, this would be something fairly odd, and would be best u get back to the dealer for a stock fan replacement.

Sorry for not being clear, the sound is beep like, it's not coming from pc speaker. I don't have pc speaker in the first case. The sound is coming from the cpu fan or around the fan, and it's faint. In intensity it's nowhere close to pc speaker beep sound.

I am sorry, I would be more careful and clear from now on. I tried to respond to psot 7 in post 15.

The sound definitely is coming from the cpu fan because of it's spinning, nut it's not the usual hiss or hum. It's high pitched, low volume sound. (The sound is beep like not from pc speaker, probably can be compared with the sound from water motor from a neightbour's house :), low decibel though)

My complete Config

Core i7 920
Gigabyte X58 UD3R(got msi eclipse exchanged with this)
patriot 6gb 1600
palit nvidia 9600gt 512
haf 932
corsair tx750w
1tb seagate 7200.11

pushpins are inserted properly, checked it.

This is the first time I'm going for higher end system :(. Previously was using amd 4850e(which had a quiet fan) in antec sonata 2 which is a great silent cabby+psu. It was so silent that, it's difficult to say whether it's on from a 2m distance without looking at ledseven at midnight.

I was planning to overclock this a bit, so planning to get n aftermarket cpu cooler. Hope that would solve my problem.

One of my friends suggested that in general intel cpu fans do make more noise than amd's. It it true? If the sound I get is normal, I am not bothered, I can live with it. But if that's not the case, I would like to fix it.

Thanks all.
