Corsair, a worldwide leader in high-performance computer and flash memory products, today at Computex 2009 announced its entry into the PC chassis category with the launch of the Corsair Obsidian Series 800D.
Flexible, roomy and sturdy, the Obsidian Series 800D full tower chassis was designed exclusively by Corsair and incorporates features demanded by the enthusiast market.
“The Obsidian Series 800D is a true builder’s case,†said Jim Carlton, VP of Marketing at Corsair. “It will reliably last you through years of motherboard, power, memory, cooling and component upgrades, while its advanced features and superior cooling performance allows you to build your ultimate dream system.â€

The steel structure of the Obsidian Series 800D has a matte black coating both inside and out, and is finished with a brushed aluminum faceplate for a professional, high-end look. It supports up to five 5.25 inch and six 3.5 inch drives in total, is compatible with ATX, Extended ATX, and Micro ATX motherboards and incorporates advanced features that make it ideal for demanding system builders. These include four hot-swap SATA bays, a cut-out section in the motherboard tray for easy CPU cooler installation and a unique cable management system that decreases cable clutter to increase airflow. The tool-free design also allows for easy entry and simple installation of 5.25 inch drives.

Cooling performance is vital for any high-end chassis, which is why the Obsidian Series 800D has a total of seven fan positions and three isolated cooling zones for the power supply, hot-swap SATA bays and main compartment. A dust-filtered 140mm fan draws in cold air at the bottom of the chassis and exhausts it at the rear and top of the chassis, forcing fresh air over the graphics cards and CPU. The SATA hot-swap bays are cooled by a separate 140mm fan, which exhausts out of the rear of chassis via a sealed chamber, preventing the heat generated by the drives from entering the main compartment. The power supply also has a dedicated intake and exhaust, which is also isolated from the main compartment.

For those in need of even greater cooling performance, the Obsidian Series 800D features a pre-drilled section in the roof to support single, dual and triple radiators, or up to three additional 120mm fans.

The Corsair Obsidian Series 800D chassis will be available in stores in early July at an estimated price of US $299, and is backed by a two-year limited warranty. Complete customer support via telephone, email, forum and Tech Support Express is also available. Well they have launched lots of new products lately , with the Hydro and ICE series in the cooling segments for CPU's and Memories. Seems they are trying to take over everything :P

$300? WTF? Are they trying to compete with Lian Li for market share in the high end segment?

That case looks too staid and boring to be worth $300.

* Steel construction with Aluminium front-cover.

* Front loading HDD bay with SATA connection backplane, to swap HDD easily and without having to open the cabinet or mess with cables.

* Roomy, with lot of cable management options, with rubber grommet laden cutouts.

* Separate thermal zone for PSU.

* Decent options to watercooling crowd.

You beeches are still whining over $300 cost?

Want a cheeeepo option with bling bling, go get Zebronics Bijli. :bleh:

^^yup.....but didnt expect 300$:(. Although the window on mobo tray for easy mounting of heatsinks backplate is good:)

Ahh now that i have cleaned my keyboard lemme say what i wanted to. :P

The chassis isn't targeted at your CM690 price range. It's a full tower Size cabinet, in the size range of Cosmos and Stacker. It's made for people who want a simple looking cabinet but having the performance of the beasts. Plus it's corsair, so it's gonna be a tad expensive to begin with. This is their first chassis in the Obsidian Series, the 800D. They will soon come out with lower ranged products too. But still, 300$ is expensive. But let it come out in the market first, 300$ is just an announced price. Once their marketing team see's the markets response to the price, they may revise it when it hits the windows. :)

It's features full black finish (Inside Out) a few 140mm fans and lots of slots for more, is LCS ready, has a slide-out mobo tray, has a separate PSU region, tool-free installation (but most cabbies nowadays feature these, but still), 7 Expansion slots, a side window, and made for good cable management. If its priced in the range of HAF - Stacker, this will surely give them a run for their money.

The only major fault i found in this was the absence of the most basic eSATA port on board on the Front Panel. Maybe corsair can take implement this in the future cabinets they make.

^Lol. Don't think so. Maybe the name comes from only the fact that it is a all black dark looking cabinet.

OMG..:@
hmmm this por* needs to be censored !!! :bleh:
pure filth this is... hehehe
on a secondary note to myself.... must sell left kidney....
what a case... pure por*
sheeeeshhh

P.S.. very sorry guys.. just couldn't resist... i think im in love...

Man, u just gotta love all those vents for cable management and the 4 hot swap bays!! And it looks so simple and elegant too!

The steel doesn't matter to me much and I sure won't puke! I can surely overlook that aspect for the other pluses :) Being on WC, I was getting sick of all the HAF types :P
