guys i'd like to know some good ac manufacturers of ac arnd 2 tonnes.
and how much bill i've to pay monthly any ideas? incase a diff metre has been fixed.
normally my home wattage consumption is around 6 fans ... 3 tv's 2 pc's 10 or more lightsd etc etc say arnd 2k a month .

What do u want? A split AC or window AC? I'm planning to get an airconditioner too if bangalore weather stays in the pathetic state it currently is in :P. (It rained today though... so it should be fine for a day or two). A name brand 1.5 Tonne split AC is around 25K. Be prepared to pay through the nose as far as electricity bills are concerned.

@ chaos belive me those prices were like 3 years back :P you can get good name brand 1.5ton split with 6 year warranty for as little as 16k ;)

the only problem is the electricity bill which i get a big ammout every month :P

Dudes how much does your electricity bill come to? for me i have a separate meter for the AC, and during the peak summer months, i got a bill of Rs.400-500..

Dude what AC is that ??

I got a Carrier 1.5 ton.... in summer if i run it for say 14hrs / day then bill escalates by 2500 to 3500 per month. That also includes a small room cooler.

Best option is to get a big desert cooler... AC is in my dads room and i got this big desert cooler....and you have to have really sleep within sheets..:ohyeah:

But a big negative is that desert cooler guzzles up water like anything...

@sandy and @chaos : your quotes are less than market price.

in my search for two acs for my home right now i am getting following costs

hitachi (costliest) (the atom one as udit mentioned) is costing around 48-50k, and other normal models cost more thatn 35 k

ogeneral : one of the best but cost high : 43k

carrier ; ac specialists : 28k

i have not yet inquired rates of Whirpool / Electorlux / blue star.

i have no faith on those korean behemoths and new entrants like haier.

i have quoted all the rates of 1.5 tonne split models. window models cost much less.

right now in my hospital i am using frizair (hyderabad based company) window acs i am pretty satisfied. but their split models too cost 36k.

so my choice has narrowed down to carrier (will look for electrolux and bluestar this week) then decide.

electricity consumption : almost all ACs of 1.5 tonne cosume about 9 amps of electricity roughly it should utilise one unit per hour of operation. so calculate that way.

in my rough estimates in peak heat 8 hours operation a day it ranges for me about 1000-1200 per month. (rates may vary in different states and gujarat has one of the highest rates of electricity in india)

I run 2 1.5 tonn ACs(split type) in the summer for 5-6 hrs a day. Increase in power bill is about 900-1100 bux .

@x86 : i got a ONIDA 1.5 ton slit ac fitted to my room .
It costed ~16K+1.5K(installation).
The electricityy bill is yet to arrive....i anticipate a increase in ~500-600Rs usually using the ac 3-4 hrs a day....
if it is more....i wont be very happy...;)

An General 1.5 ton.. but its the older model.

Dude, coolers suck....... (water :p )

i personally dnt think coolers are bad..

infact the problem one wd hv is wen the humidity sets in ..

else .. sleepin in front of the regular desert cooler is ... Aha .. :)

how much a cooler costs..
there r some obligations for ac .. simplest one is idont have 20k or so rt now.
so i'll settle for a cooler i guess LOL :P or i;ve to wait till next year as after 2 months getting a ac is useless.

havent really gone through all the posts in the thread but i have a carrier 2 ton a/c at home along with 2 voltas 1.5 ton and the bill comes close to 10k a month sometimes :(

actually once u have Ac , u will find yourself runnin it most of the time.... :(

My room Ac (some carrier model- 1.5) ends up runnin almost 10 hrs a day and the bills are like...

Coolers are really useless in places like chennai where the humidity is high... I will just be like another fan when the humidity is high...

Well... IIRC LG/Samsung Window AC's cost somewhere in the range of 16K with remote... And 15K without remote... I am talking abt 1.5tonn window...

Also my AC is on throughout the night... But what i do is that i set the room temperature on the AC to 28 Deg and it auto shuts off after every 3-60 mins and then again turns on after 30-45 mins when the room temps rise above that level... The best way to save money IMO...

Also i never liked the idea of Desert coolers as i hate direct air blowing on me and not to forget they are useless in humid areas or when it rains... Also after sleeping infront of a desert cooler and waking up next day in morning gives me a terrible body ache... Let me know if anybody else has the same experience...

I bought 2 Window O General 1 ton AC's with Remote ..... one last year and one last month each cost the same - 20.5K - I spoke to a lot of people in the Air Conditioning business and every time I was told the same "buy O General no other brand comes close to it for Window ACs". I got catalogues from almost all the foreign brands of AC's and checked their features - a few seem to have better features than the O General but when I saw the AC's open at the shops there was no contest - it was O General all the way - no other brand matched the finish of the O General in the window models.

I think if I buy splits I will buy Daikin they are very good but they do not have Window models available here.

I have an Ampmeter attached online with the AC in my bedroom and the 1 Ton O General consumes 6.5A whilst my old Voltas 1.5 Ton AC used to consume around 12.5A and yet the O General cools more than the Voltas !!!
