The push-pin mount on stock Intel CPU cooler SUCKS salamander's b*lls!!

:@ Yes, that's been my opinion and it just got even more firm.

Basically, here's what happened. One of the system that I own, was giving some problems recently. After troubleshooting I came to conclusion that mobo is having trouble so sent it for checkup. There was some problem with voltage regulators on mobo, so got that fixed and got it back today. Turns out some idiot at the shop f*cked up the pushpins on heatsink. Obviously I trashed the guy over phone and even got half of the money back I spent on fixing the mobo, but after settling down I realized that in the past even I have had troubles with stock intel heatsink on LGA775. Damn thing is too damn nasty to remove and too damn fragile for slightest force.

Anyway, now that we got that little story out of the way, the fact remains that I need to buy another cooler for that system. I'm not sure how much the stock intel heatsink costs (my guesstimate is around 500-800 bucks).

So, is there any other aftermarket heatsink that I can use instead of stock intel heatsink, without burning hole in my pocket?

Something that doesn't cost me more than 1000 rs (sub 1k is preferred) and easily available in Mumbai?

Please let me know soon, as I can't get that system running unless I put on the heatsink. Thanks in advance.

@toolius: It's a P4 HT (LGA775) 3.0 GHz proccy. Now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind buying second-hand stock intel heatsink. Hey, it saves money, right? :)

hmm lemme check .. i know i have a brand new 775 pin celeron heatsink lying around and maybe a q6600 heatsink.. i think i do have it just not sure .

the celeron one is free :)

and if i can find my old q6600 heatsink then its free too :)

cant find the q6600 heatsink right now. will have to ask mom if she has seen it somewhere.

but the celeron is yours if you want it :)

just dont know how it will cope with the 3gig proc. feel free to try if you want :)

good man...

I picked up the cooler from Toolius today noon. As of now, the system is up and running and temps seem to be little high as the cooler is meant for celeron processor and slightly underpowered for my P4 3.2GHz processor. But nothing that can't be fixed by adding an extra fan on side panel. So, the issue is sorted out.

But All in all, Thanks a lot to Toolius for helping me out. I appreciate your help.

+1 to that. Despite my request, he didn't charge me anything for the cooler. :)
