What are the rest of the specs of his system? Is he upgrading the system or or this for a new build?
What are the planned upgrades etc....
Answering these questions will get u better suggestions.
Purely if u wanna go based on a 9k budget and a decent processor for gaming needs then,
AMD PhenomII X2 555BE + MSI 785GM-E51 ~ 9k --> Great VFM if it unlocks to a quad(or)
Intel Core i-3 540 + Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2 ~ 8.9k --> Beats the above combo if its not unlocked to a quad.

AMD Athlon II x4 640 3.0ghz @ 5.2k + MSI 785GM E51 @ 3.6k
why take chances with unlocking when you have a good all rounder at that price. though you will loose 6-7fps as compared to i3 540 but athlon 640 will give you more futureproof solution. moreover performance is better when you do multitasking..
but can you mention other system specs such as psu, ram etc.

We have decided to go for AMD PhenomII X2 555BE.....
As for motherboard, there are two options-
1. MSI 785GM-E51
2. GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H
which of these will be better..or if there is some other board better in the budget (4k-5k for motherboard)
