CPU/Mobo CPU motherboard temperature problem

Have a Question. Cpu socket 939, 3200+ idles out at 44 while the motherboard A8n sli se is at 45 .are these Normal temperatures? My room temperature usually is much hotter than any of the other rooms around but still, mobo at 45 degress seems fishy. Asking this question as am too lazy to apply AS5 to mobo chip now coz i just finished assembling it :) .
 
^^First, whr do u stay dude? If its Mumbai, ur temps (on days like these) seems ok.. ;) Well, as you say tht ur room is hotter than other room, its bound to happen.. Also there are other factors to look into which might be cranking up the mobo temps..one of them is ur cabinet design, the number of peripheral cards installed and the ventilation inside the cabinet. See if ur mobo chipset hsf is not blocked by any cable and the fan on the heat sink is working fine...

Add a fan to ur cabinet drawing in air from the front(if u havent already), and also see to it tht ur cables are managed properly to allow proper ventilation inside ur cabby..:) Sometimes simple measures like these seem to help alot..see if it does the trick for u..
 
I stay in bangalore and today is one of the warmer days . Currently this is running on Antec SLB cabby. has a front intake and a rear exhaust. no cables are blocking air flow path. Motherboard is still at 45 and cpu has reached 47 due to lightweight games :ohyeah:
 
I suppose like all other asus mobos urs also has 2-3 sensors mainly located near the mobo chipset and the ram module area.. double check ur chipset fan is workin fine..also, it wud be better if u cud live with more noise and probably disable tht 'quiet fan' technology in bios and see if makes any difference..

Also, if possible, fit a fan directly throwing air on the ram area with the help of a fan bracket (available cheap in market) ... i had similar issues but these measures did seem to help me a lot..:)
 
45C Idle is way too high I used to get 47C Load on my 3000+@2.4GHz with the stock cooler & with 33C Ambient Temperatures in a Antec TX1088AMG Cabinet with 2x80mm Front Intakes & a 120mm Exhaust
 
I would suggest you to Purchase a Thermal Paste called Arctic Silver5 and apply it over CPU and below the Heatsink. This will help you a lot.
 
Thats the only thing left. I will probly do it now. I have Artic silver 5. But i was too lazy to strip open the cabby and mobo to apply AS5. looks like i will have to do that now. Thanx for all the suggestions. i usually get high temperatures in my room. could never try the OC route coz of that.

@Private Ryan - i have disabled the cool and quiet technology the minute i saw it in bios. The fan is making lotsa noise but its much better than have elevated temperatures. Am thinking of withdrawing my NMB fans sale in market and instead use it for this mobo and proc. I hate the noisier cabbies though.
 
solved the problem :D Removed mobo, removed the fan and i saw the strangest thing on earth. on the chip, there was a square strip (the material was somewhat like a camera film) and a square hole was cut in the film so that the fan heatsink comes in contact with mobo chip.Dunno what that insulator thingy is for And as usual a white paste which looked more like limestone. removed that insulator thingy, cleaned the paste, applied AS5, made sure that there was a good contact with the chip and heatsink. assembled the things back. The result CPU : 41 (as before), Mobo 38 (almost 4-5 degrees drop) I think i can live with it.
 
lol!!! 49 after playing 20 mins of carbon and for some reason, now its idling out at 44 again. Not happy with temps at especially for a mobo

Your mobo i.e. chipset temps seem fine !
nForce4 chipsets do run that hot. My nF4 ultra is presently running along at 47C too. They should generally do fine right up to 60C.

Of course AS5 instead of the toothpaste like thermal paste they use is always a better thing. However removing the insulating strip was probably not a wise move. The nF4 chipset has a couple of SMD resistors on its surface, so the strip was probably to prevent the metal-base heatsink shorting them out.

As for your CPU temps - 44C idle seems pretty ok for a stock HSF. What is more important is what happens to the temps on full load. As long as they stay within ~55C then, you should be quite content.

Thanx Eddy, Ur post helped a lot. I am on my way back to putting thats insulation thingy. dont want any mishaps:)
 
cannot edit previous post , so posting again. searched for half an hour and i think i have lost the insulation strip. any idea whether i will continue to work like normal? i mean if anything should have happened, it should have happened on the first boot after removing the insulation thingy right?
 
not sure whether removing 'it' wud have caused a problem on the very first run..i think, u shud keep it running for a day under different load conditons to see if there really was any damage done.. if there is a lock up or crash, u need to press the panic button.. i mean, call the saviours!!

Btw, i'm afraid to say this, but u have already lost ur warranty(i'm saying this because i've suffered a similar scenario with asus, and things dont get any better with Asus' aftersales service in india....) just pray tht everything works out fine and u dont need to take it to service personnel during its warranty period..;)
 
Ok, bumping this thread for the last time as I thought I will update you guys who have helped me. After a week, I found the insulator thingy which actually had got stuck to a cd case. I put it back :hap2: The AS5 probably finshed its curing period coz of which I am getting chipset temps of 42 on idle and 47-48 on load. Since the ambient temp is around 33-34 degrees, i think these temps are fine. Also, the CPU temps idles out at 47 now so am a happy man :)
 
Just to mess up your life a bit :) .... check out the readings I get with my ASUS A8N-E and AMD 939 3000+ @ stock speed... room temp about 30C ... the reason for the low readings is that I have 5 120mm fans in the case including one on the CPU's heat sink.

last day temp was 42*c hot hot side hot day for this season in mumbai.

Mother Board Monitor.... like it as it shows any reading you want in the systray - I have the CPU and CHIP and 2 HDD temps showing at all times.

I dont think we Mumbaikars will have much of a problem with overheating of our computers in the afternoons this summer as our Electric supply is going to be cut in the afternoons according to an aticle in Hindustan Times yesterday :D
