Around 2 - 3 weeks back my cpu started heating up for no apparent reason.

Idle temp went up to --> 48 C - 55 C

And on load[while playing games] --> 70 C - 80 C [ using CPU ID for temps]

This after i changed the thermal paste with stock heatsink[ some paste for 75 bucks came in a syringe/arctic silver wasn't available]. Before that while on load, the temperature kept on rising to 100 C and then i got BSOD.

Please any ideas as to what could be going wrong.

Should i get Arctic silver or tuniq pastes ?? or is it something wrong altoghether.

Please help TIA.

What's your system configuration? What's the ambient temps? Is the processor only component that its hot? How can one answer this question without mentioning the system configuration and the ambient temps? How can a sane person can help a person without the obvious information?

Besides, its summer- so temperature is bound to increase.

CPU - AMD AThlon 5600+ 2gb ram + 250gb HDD + 1 tb HDD + antibiotic cabinet [ side panel is kept open ]

Heatsink - Stock

i think cpu is the only component that is hot and it causes BSOD.

Ambient temperature is little on the hotter side. No Air Conditioner.

Most cheap thermal pastes work the other way around, they conduct less heat and make the heatsink dissipate heat slower.

did u applied too much of paste on the cpu? if yes then wipe off it and apply again a thin layer by using a soft thin polythene wrapped on ur finger tip and spread the thermal paste making a thin uniform layer. Also check the cpu heat sink is seated on cpu properly or not. And don't apply thermal paste on heatsink's base.

I dont think paste was the problem... cause i already had read it in a tutorial guide.

Just got a new AC.... heatsink temperature hovers around 30c now.. :P

Try removing ur heatsink, sometimes excess dust gets accumulated and it craps out many PCs.... Trust me, I got KG loads of dust out of my P4 heatsink which hadn't been cleaned for 4 years :D...

After cleaning, the temps dropped dramatically.
