A few weeks back I had posted about the CPU which got damaged as one its pin got broken.

Since I won't be able to get it fixed. I am looking for a CPU in the range of 5.5K

Phenom II X4 945 which is already selling at around 6.6K
I was wondering wht would be cost of Phenom II X4 925 or if you want to suggest something else pls

LEt me know

Thanks in Advance

Yea. There is a good probability that the AMD Phenom II X2 555BE unlocks into a quad and so it makes it a great VFM.

Again, if you're bias toward intel product then i3 540 ~ 5k stands as a good alternative.

Actually guys my MB is Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2HP
actually rma'ed it 2 weeks back from GA-MA78GM-S2H

so can u tell me if that board support unlocking or what.

There is no 'sure success' unlock chance. Sometimes motherboard maybe a factor, but ultimately it depends on your luck. Its about 50-70% chance.

Wait, let me explain you a bit :-

Some of the 555BE's have two defective core, which is why they ended up getting binned as an X2 instead of being sold as a full quad core.

So sometimes, the X2 you buy is really an X2 (has two defective cores), which won't unlock, but sometimes the X2 you buy is really an X4 binned down to an X2 to satisfy market demands, and that's the one you can unlock.

But again, there is no way to know beforehand which one is which. You'll only know, when you'll attempt to unlock it. It is a risk you will have to live with.

^^ Errr.. As I said, it depends upon your luck that the X2 you buy is really an X2(has two defective cores) or an X4 binned down to an X2.

Sigh, didn't read your mobo model. :ashamed:

Yes, go for the AMD Athlon II X4 635 then.

As said by rahulyo, your motherboard doesn't have south bridge as SB710/750, so, its better to choose Athlon II X4 635 for it has advantage of extra two cores for nearly the same price.

Even if we consider unlock chances which are gamble of the cores being either unstable or not existing then OP is stuck with a x2 processor and unlocking voids his warranty another down side so by default would recommend the AMD Athlon II x4 635/640 ~ 4.5K/5K respectively

Bench - CPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News ~ even lacking a L3 cache doesn't stop the Athlon II from easily catching up with the Phenom II in single thread apps as well the Multi threaded apps clearly slide in the favor of a true quad core :) hope this helps
