i know similar questions have already been asked, but, for my rig, with only limewire, aim, and internet explorer running, my cpu temps were 54 and 56, and in my bios my fan settings are Fan Detection Disabled, Response Aggressive, and Dampning Normal and it is in a 4 pin. room temperature here is normally around 60-70 degrees. are these temps normal, should i be worried? is there anything else i can do to try and lower the temp? should i consider buying a new heatsink and fan? maybe changing the thermal paste?

Your temps do seem a tad bit high, but should be ok. You could run Prime95/Orthos , or Intel's TAT and see how high your load temps can actually go.

There seems to be a great variance with the temps between diff C2D's - some run hot, some run cool.. and apparently the stock cooling isnt able to keep a lid on temps. Thermal paste may help only if the contact is poor, else a better heatsink would be the best way to go.

BTW your room temps are 60 ~ 70 - i'm guessing thats in Fahrenheit ? If so, are the load/idle temps you mention in C or F ?

they are all in farhrenheit...

I just spotted my mistake - the Idle/Load temps cannot be fahrenheit; they're most probably in deg C. There's no way an air-cooled setup would have temps lower than your room temps.

My system's Idle temp. varies between 25-27 deg C, perhaps AMD knows better how to stay cool even with their 90nm Processor Technology.

right, :ashamed: it is in Celsius...

Seems possible, considering most apps arent optimised for dual-cores and run on just a single core.

Which tool are you using to monitor temps? CoreTemp is quite accurate if you're not using it already.
