Hi guys i just got my new intel 865gbf by rma.
I had removed all the components from my previous 865gbf including the proccy and the heatsink.
Now on my new mobo bios is showing 93c at idle.
Even my intel active monitor shows the same results.
But when i keep the cabinet in the sleeping position and remove the side panel, the temp are 64 at idle, but drastically change to 75 even when i open internet explorer.Cud it it be that my thermal paste has weared out??

It could be that your Heatsink is not mounted properly. Take it out, apply a fresh coat of Thermal grease and fit it back in. Secondly what RPM does the Intel Active monitor showing for the Processor Fan. Should be around 3k atleast.

Where do u live?

And WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY????? No Thermal Grease?????

Get it from any Computer Hardware store. They call it Thermal Compound also.

So ask for Thermal Grease/Compound or CPU Cooling Compound.

You better not use your PC until you get it :S.

i think your bios is showing some erronous reading....coz afaik before the temp reaches 93 C the system will shut itself down!

Try touching the heatsink if you can....and check if its really hot...

dude....get sm thermal paste on ur proccy and heatsink...

@ wraith.: the bios isnt showing wrong reading....865gbf shows these readings....mine shows 94 at start and so does intel active monitor...apprantly smthing wronf with the software...

get everest home edition...it shows the correct temp of ur PC...:)

my first 865gbf used to show arnd 65C at startup...

after i got a replacement, the new one shows abt 50C at startup.

maybe its got smthing to do with the bios version. :S

@blueyesdude

apply some thermal grease as suggested by others and chk the readings.

touch the heatsink when it shows those weird temps..if its too cold, there is less contact...if its tooo hot (cant touch at all) then something's wrong..

use a heatsink paste..u get local ones for 10Rs...ask ant elex shop

93C ?? the intel processor is supposed to shut itself down :S

btw ... try everest home edition .. the sensor should show what u cantually have .. btw .. u should use thermal grease ... (any good comp shop is supposed to have the tubes tht comes with AMD ones :) )

btw .. 93 C is something in which u shouldnt run tht pc ... its HIGH risk.

Intel Activity Monitor is known to have some errors reporting temperatures certainly not a jump of this kind on average the temp. difference is +10C tops. Goldenfrag seems to be on the right track when he mentioned the thermal paste.
Also check nothing is obstructing the top left and right corner around the bracket that holds the CPU cooler. Two thermal zones for this board are measured from around there.

Ok i applied the thermal paste, temps are at normal 57 at idle
75c at full load.
Btw i wanted to buy a cooler for my cpu. Here are the prices i got at lamington road, are they fine?

AS5-725
asus starice-2700
coolermaster ultra vortex-2488
coolermaster hyper 6-3200

The board uses an mPGA 478 type socket which is located right at the top of the board. Will the ultra vortex manage to actually sit in there without bumping into the SMPS in your case? Usually it would stick out a good half inch from the top of the board.

Even though the spacing on the most Intel boards is generous the fan might just be sitting on top of the capacitors. Point is this cooler might be a bit to spead out over the board.

The Hyper 6 seems like a good bet if not a bit too costly. :)

northwood processors do not cross 65 at fullest load even -- i have used them alot. I dont know abt the intel mobos as i never used other than ASUS for 865 chipset based but as temps have come down must be the HEastsink wasnt mounted properly. non prescott processors were the best one;s very low on heat - i think idle shd be less than 40 at any point
also - do put some case fans - front intake & rear outflow

What abt the prices of the above products.
I got them from lamington road.are they reasonable enuf?

AS5 - Rs.575/- (i got about 2 tubes left)

plus if you are interested i can offer you ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 4 heatsink.
pics and details in the link below.....
http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.php?idx=9&data=1&disc=

Kindly note i have replaced the original 80 mm fan with a 92 mm panaflo fan. (I had bought it from a TE member with the fan blade assembly spindle broken, hence modded it with much higher CFM panaflo.)
Price: Rs.2000/- + Shipping.

Cons: No rpm sensing

Incase you want to use ur existing p4 fan (yes it fits pretty easily and nicely + plus you get rpm sensing )
then the price reduced to Rs. 1750/- without the panaflo fan.

cons: cooling efficiency slightly reduced as compared to the 92mm panaflo fan.
