@kannadiga

go for either Philips shp2700 or hd202

@dOm1naTOr

What abt Philips SHP8900, its available for 2.7k .......me too looking for an upgrade frm hd201 can Philips SHP8900 beat sennheiser PX100 for music playback? Is there any full sized headphone under 3k which can match PX100?

Is Philips 5400 available now?

after a long wait, the ebay seller deceived me. havnt shipped before deadline, and ebay is processing my refund. :x

So, should i reorder the same from another seller ? [ another seller selle same for 200 bucks more].

Or should i change my mind to these?

Panasonic RP DJ300 DJ Style Headphone DJ 300: 2.1k ebay [1.9k after coupon]

Philips HIFI SHP8900 : 3k ebay [2.5k after coupon]

PHILIPS ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES SBC HN110: 2.5k ebay [2.25k after coupon]

Skull Candy Hesh White Black : 2.6k shipped from lynx

i want best music quality with lots of bass. Is there anything special about that noise cancelling headphone? Will it be like an IEM experience i get on my pl30 and pl11 ? How good will be it for music, movies and games?

btw SHP 8900 looks too cool. Whats the difference from SHP 8500 for a 1k price variation ?

I think there is no full sized headphone under 3k which can beat PX100 for music quality, unfortunately PX100 is portable, only having 1.25metres cable length:(

SHP 8900 is good for movies, don't know abt its music quality, i guess its just behind PX100.

u can chk this review for SHP 8900

http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94359

Me too looking for an upgrade but not much option at that range:(

Thanks, but that tdf review seems to be a very very childish. He hasnt even burned em properly before testing :(

i think i shud go with the SHP8900.

but is it really worth 1k over the SHP8500 ?

^wt i heard is "burn in" is not true, in the case of headphones

Yea go for 8900 no other option left, unless u can find AKG's it has one model at that range which is better than all these, but cant remember its model no...

Its a hotly debated topic but my personal opinion is that it is very real and more so with headphones.

Also I have high doubts about the review in the link you just posted. The 'room' that the guy mentions is called soundstage. And IEMS CAN have soundstage, even cheap ones like the soundmagic PL-30.

Honestly if you want to see a well written review check out Faheem's reviews of headphones and IEMs. What is written on that website is not very good IMHO.

He mentions the Sennheiser HD201 being 'muddy'. However he fails to explain that their sensitivity is very low (95 dbl. Most earphones are 105 - 110 dbl) which makes them hard to drive.

You also need to burn them in for 100 hours for them to sound great.

That said I still feel the Philips 8900 are good headphones (from what I have read).

I have a sennheiser HD 201, and i feel its pure crap for the price. I also have a Philips SHP1900, which performs almosr same as the HD 201, but the senn costs more than three times that of the SHP 1900.

I know there are really great models for senn too, but i ll have to look atleast on the HD555, which is damn expensive for the performance it offers.

I have Sound Blaster Audigy Value and Fiio E3 can they drive hd201 efficiently or should i buy something else. I cant spend upto Rs1500/- only

I have owned HD201 for almost 2 years & have tried them with different sources, soundcards & amps.

Unamped they are bass light & have a bit rolled off highs. But one thing they are not is "Muddy". They have, IMHO, the best mid-range for sub 2k headphones.

Even unamped they are a bargain at their current price, though I would not recommend them to a basshead.

Their sensitivity is 92 dB/mW & they are really hard to drive. One need a really solid amp to drive these beasts.

@SAWAL1990
FiiO E3 is good, but isnt reccomended for headphones. It can drain a AAA battery within 2~3 hrs with good volume level. AT high volume, it wont even last 2 hrs.
But it does good job for IEMs with a AAA battery.

Go for FiiO E5 with Li-Ion.

btw coming to HD 201, ya its bit more crisp, and tighter bass. But its too weak.
I ve tested it with :
*Creative Audigy value 7.1
*Auzentech HDA Xplosion [can only run on 16 bit on win 7 :( ]
*Creative Zen Mosaic with FiiO E3.

last one was good experience, but the battery didnt last for atleast 5 songs.

In games and music, the HD 201 is slightly better than my old SHP 1900, but for movies, the 1900 is much better.
anyway i just paid for the SHP8900 for 3k shipped. Hope its as good as said.

HD 202 has better bass. Rest everything is same.

Go with HD 202 if you want more bass in your music. Otherwise, Creative.

Well but soundstage is small.Details lacking.

got the headphones yesterday. Initially its too boom boom, and my eardrums began to pain when i tested with FiiO E3. :)

Its too heavy and huge. But comfort is great. Ive put it for burning.

even before burning, its lot better than HD 201.

btw, is an SHP8900. But it isnt sitting tight to the ears, coz the earcups are huge and heavy. Anyway i ll have to get used to that.

Ah ! Good to hear you spend more and got the 8900. They have some really nice reviews.

Btw, I would suggest you do not use it with the E3 as the E3 makes the bass even more boomier.

But without the E3, its kinda underpowered. dunno why.

but with the E3 on my HDA Xplosion, its outrageous. The gap b/w the HD 201 is widened by 10 times, with the E3. HD 201 cant stand the E3 output. even on lower volume, it doesnt seem to adapt with the amp.

But the feeling on uncomfort is growing, coz of its size and weight. i really hoped, if it was as light and compact as HD 201.
