Helo people,
I am looking for this set of speakers on the Net and am unable to find them to purchase. The Creative Labs MegaWorks THX 5.1 550 set of speakers were once , and for a long time the best known speakers a man could have.

I would like to know where i can get these speakers and doesnt really matter whether is new or used.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and feedback.

well i have the slightly better gigaworks S750,my cousin has the megaworks 550 its great but high and mids aren't has good as the gigaworks S750,as far as bass both are evenly matched, gigaworks gives more bass at same volume levels,i.e at 50% volume the gigaworks gives more bass then the megaworks.but the end bass in terms of SPL there ain't much of difference, the gigaworks gives a more tighter bass and faster, both have a dual voice coil long throw 8inch woofer, just the gigaworks has a more powerfull amp.but not sure if the voice coil in megaworks is different in terms of power handling.

IINM both the Gigaworks S720 and the Megaworks 550 have been phased out. EOL to be precise.

any particular reason why you want these only?

These speakers were for sometime the best speakers available in the market. at times beating the ones like Onkyo and Denon. It was until the 710 gigaworks 750 were introduces. The megaworks 550 were retailing at arnd 10,000 whereas the Gw 750 was at a staggering 35+. and u should have listened to what 500watts 'RMS' will sound like.

^^The megaworks 550 were never sold for 10k, it had always been between 17.5-20k The megaworks 250 did sell for close to 10k.

well thats the reason why i bought them,at the time i had the choice of buying the logitech Z680 and Z5500 both where much cheaper good for bass freaks, there was also the onkyo HTiBs again didn't match the gigaworks overall performance.also i bought it from the US so it was cheaper.

But werent these prone to some heavy cases of hardware failure, esp the sub?

nope i have heard of hardware failure in every electronic devices but it is less or the same as other companies like logitech with their Z5500,mine is almost 4years old running fine with daily use of atleast an hour.

here is the interior picture of gigaworks s750 sub notice the better cable management looks more tidy

here is the interior picture of the Z5500 sub, looks less neat IMO.

But when i googled for the S750 , all i was treated with were lots of blown sub queries. The rate of failure was so high that it was just a matter of days/months before the sub blew. and here, Creative support aint that bright(atleast relatively) and hence i decided to keep my Z5500.

Oh well, the extra connectivity options of the Z5500 control pod too helped with my decision.

PS: This aint a comparison of the 2 sets or anything, just my experience i have quoted above.

I have what you want, Creative Labs MegaWorks THX 5.1 550. I barely used this system but it was awesome when I had it running. Make me an offer. Shipping might be pricey cuz there really heavy.

I think you have a point. I have the Megaworks 550 and I've had it repaired twice. Once, the PCB had blown. Cost me 5k to get it replaced. Another time I got a few transistors repaired. Cost me about 1k. And now, it is again not working. Dont know why. It hasnt been working for the past 3 months. Pissing off!

My experience with Megaworks 550 have been pleasant so far. I have it for the past 4-5 years and use it on a regular basis. No failure till date.

@Redbull...

No dude..this is one of the best systems to this date. i have a creative fanatic as a frnd. owned 90% of the h/w they release. He is a Audio/Video "designer".

If you want, next time you come to tvm, drop me a PM. Ill see if i can arrange a private audition.

The sound is very solid and firm, atleast to me.

Logi 5500 d is really, no doubt but Creative gigaworks 750 is the top end man. You should hear it to believe.

No doubt logitech comes near but the dynamics, soundstage, bass etc in movies is top range.

The connectivity features is severely lacking, hence a strict no no.
