I plan to purchase a credit card. Sole reason :--- for creating an itunes account:@ :@ . Don't now much abt. it. So have a few questions here:-

1) Which one should i go for ?
2)If i don't purchase anything will there still be a monthly bill?
3) Is it safe to give credit card nos. online ? What's the worst that could happen?
4)what's the procedure to cancel it ?
and finally,
5) Once you create an itunes account , what happens if you cancel the credit card? will the itunes account also get cancelled?

Register a Paypal account , transfer funds from your account to paypal , then generate a virtual credit card using paypal and create the itunes account

1) Get HDFC Credit Card

2) Make Virtual CC's as many as you wish as and when you wish to use

Complete peace of mind. I use the same for booking online tickets etc...I go all the way till making payments , check the amount , build a CC of the same amount and merrily use it on the site.

Just google around, there is a way to get a US itunes account without requiring a CC. Even if you do get one using a cc, there are no monthly charges and you'll be charged only if you purchase something

I'm not sure how things are there compared to the US, but building good credit is always important. That said, you should always be careful not to spend more than you are prepared to pay back, and keep your credit card at a low balance.

When you are trying to build a little credit, it is ok to leave a small balance as long as you are able to budget for it. This shows to other creditors that you are responsible and can make timely payments on balances. If you open and close too many credit cards, you will have no long term history of credit and this can also be detrimental to you ... for instance when you need to make a big purchase, open a business or need to get a bank loan.

Besides your payment history, creditors also look at the length of time you have shown good creditworthiness with a single creditor. If you close a cc that has been open for 3 yrs, and then open another one.. your credit report shows as new credit that you do not have history on which can impact you negatively.

Well, there's a method in which you don't need to use a credit card or anything for creating an iTunes account and obviously it only works for the "free" items on the store.

1) No need to purchase any if you only plan to install the free items, in case you want to buy the paid Apps/Music just get a HDFC/ICICI bank CC.

2) If you don't really buy either paid/free you will recieve a monthly receipt in your mailbox.

3) I think its pretty much safe in case of Apple.

4) If you want to cancel the credit card, the bank which issued you one will surely do it for you.

5) No, if you remove the credit card details you will only be entitled to downloading the free items on the store, and you can remove/add your credit card details anytime to your account.

thx a lot everyone esp. Alchemist:D

One final question:- I mean if the computer has spyware or somethin , will entering a credit card detail cause any problems ?

try India first if it doesn't work(India wasn't there when i created)

go with us. i doubt it will allow, i had a problem with US.. finally if nothing works go with AUS

Yes , theoretically if you have a key logger on your PC , it can record the details , but most decent A/V's can detect them

thank you. One question --- should i pick US or india in step no 1. (Select country.) I mean would choosing india limt the no. of apps available in any way ??

Just get a US store instead of Indian, besides the extra Apps the US store offers free weekly single and video for download and you get access to a lot of other stuff.

Also if you have a US itunes store account, you have the benefit of working iTunes store app on your iPhone which doesn't work in case of an Indian Store account.

Just make sure you enter a correct address along with the matching zip code and you're set.

Ahh!! too lote ! Already created an indian itunes store account and downloaded a ton of apps. Then noticed that the US account gives you more apps so signed out and created an US account.Haven't got their mail yet so don't know whether that will work.
