Current State of broadband in our country; Ruled by Evil Empires!

The digital revolution is changing all our lives beyond recognition and today we must set out- how India must change with it. Whether it is to work online, study, learn new skills or simply stay in touch with friends and family, a fast internet connection is now seen by rest of world as also by the informed public in India as an essential service, as indispensable as electricity, and water.
first step must be to make the existing broadband network truly available to all. Just as we were made committed to a universal postal service by Govt of India-during last century, we must make government of India pledge today to give every home, community and company access to Broadband internet at a price affordable to all of us.

Wasn't 2007 supposed to be 'The year of broadband' ?

80% people are not bothered about having an internet connection here. Their mindset is - woah! 200 bucks is costly for a month!! And rest are - Teach me to surf internet!

with such people here no wonder there is no true broadband. just 256k dialup speeds...

Lets face it, we techies are just a minute percentage of the demand. Major demand and money is from the corporate sector only. Until they drive for lower rates, we aren't getting lower rates.

Wouldn't you think they have been driving, are driving and will continue to drive for lower costs as it diretly hits their bottomline ?
