Customs duties when returning from the US to Mumbai?

I'll be visiting the US for the next 3 weeks, wondering what all and how much I can bring back (electronics etc) without incurring the wrath of the customs agents when landing in Mumbai? Is it hit and miss, luck of the draw? Meaning they can charge customs for stuff like laptop, ipad3, digicams etc?

as long as you don't get multiple of each, you should be fine.

I'm pretty tentative. Bought a digicam yesterday for the trip (will be carrying its receipt), might get a Nexus 7 and/or new smartphone there for myself. Wonder if I should bother carrying stuff for friends/coworkers (laptop, tablet, mobile etc) heh

If you are buying a phone, you can discard the box and just carry in your pocket. For other stuff, it is better you keep their receipt.
