Customs query

Guys i recently purchased a TE-K26 Programmable Digital Timer for $10.06 after coupon applied form pandawill china.

Today postman came with the package and what i saw was customs charged was Rs.391/- and the customs was levied on item price of rupees 1000/-.

Item came through Cochin F customs clearance.

I did not accept the package and explained the postman about the wrong customs levied. He told me to come to post office and ask about the customs to the people there and he will inform about the mistake in post office.

So what should I take along with me while going to the postoffice.? I can take a print out of order invoice from pandawill.

This is weird as I got many items from ebay about $30~$45 and never got charged from Cochin customs.

Well, you can reject the package and ask for a refund from Pandawill.

Or you can go to the post office along with the PayPal receipt and a print out of the product page from Pandawill, I guess they will forward the package along with these proofs for re evaluation.

Not sure how long that process will take, if you were in Cochin you could have visited the Foreign Post office to expedite the process.

Anyway even if it was valued at $10, then also the duty will come to about Rs 150 - Rs 175, so is it worth the trouble for saving Rs 200?

I guess the first option is the easiest and best!

Btw I got mine with *zero* duty!

Better pay the 391/- and collect the package. Usually u have to go to a lot of places to get the amount reduced.

Usually many do not have time and patience.

Post office people are not the people who levied the custom's amount. You have to go to the customs office to clear that amount.

Rejected the package. I don't want to pay 391 as customs for 550 rupees item. Even the guys at post office said to reject after seeing the miscalculation.

So simple way : Package not received. Want refund my dear Pandawill

In Mumbai Customs, the items shipped from China, HK Airmail, reach in about 15-21 Days & yes each & every shipment however small it may be goes thru custom stamps ( I had ordered $0.01 items like screen guard etc had Mumbai customs stamp on it)

Once reaching the Mumbai Customs its generally gets delivered in 2-3 days via India Post, I had bought an item worth $20 from ebay.com (HK Seller) did not get any charge from customs for that shipment or any other shipment till date

Wonder why OP was charged for $10 item

Well i brought headphone worth 40$ but the packaging is quite big. Do you think i will be charged a lot for it?

Till what price i don't have to pay anything extra? Me being in Delhi makes it difficult to go to Mumbai and check out the situation myself.

I was once charged Rs 210 as customs duty for a $1 Sleeping Mask that I got from eBay and the bad news was that I wasn't at home and my mother paid and accepted it!
