I got this problem while I am trying to copy the image file from my dvd to my hdd. I got this problem in two of the image files out of three in the dvd. I tested one of the failed iso while i downloaded it months back -installed and mounted and runs well. The media is scratch less.

data : games iso
media: Verbatim - got it from mediahome @ TE
software:imgburn @ 12x speed

I am really pissed off- I allready deleted the downloaded iso from my hdd and again have to downloaded it. I tried CD Check 3 - its working now - but showing most of the part of the iso is not readable:( any way around

PS : try a different PSU , I have seen many drives give this error and this error eventually goes away on a different PSU......maybe u could try a different power cable to the drive as well.......try some other dvd burnt on another drive.....if that also doesn't solve the error , try it on another computer / laptop , same error then possibly the drive is dying

I have not tried disk in a different computer yet- have to do that today.

@thetechmind: drive is not that old. I bought in starting of last year or end of 2007 - not remembered the exact date and time. I have recently got the new psu 2months back.its a 400 watts zebronics economic series.

"

" - what do you mean by this ?

Right now I can try these two methods suggest by you :

try a different power cable to the drive

try it on another computer / laptop

--

try it on another computer / laptop , same error then possibly the drive is dying
- do you want to mean that the drive does not burnt the disc well since its dying ??

sorry for some mess up typos.....first thread im reading after i woke up

-1) try the dvd on another pc
-2) try dvd on your pc after a power cable change
-3) try your drive and your dvd on another pc
-4) try some other dvd NOT burnt using your drive and try copying the same.

if pt. 4 is true then that would mean ur dvd is not churning out good dvd records.....in that case try some other media and try recopying it to the pc....if that also is kaput, then well......sure indication of the dvd drive dying...

p.s : do not ignore the psu....if possible try everything on different psu.

@thetechmind: thanks mate; will try and let u know.

I burned few disk last night with cdburnerxp;basically ripped dvd movies.I run the video once it completed and they ran well. Is there any way to check the data integrity of the burned media after burning it. I saw some "varify data" option in the software.

The dvd where I have the corrupted iso- I able to mount one of the three images out of the three and it shows the autoplay screen;although has not installed it.

btw what is the average life of a DVD RW- I am using LG now a days. I used samsung CD R in my first pc and LG DVD R/CD RW combo;then shifted to Liton DVD RW.my liton last for a year and half- it gives problems in reading dvd 9 disc-those p** dvds containing more thn 4 movies. i was using a 300 watt techom psu with the liteon which i changed recently. even my current LG dvd RW creates problems while reading those p** movie disc -which runs well in generic dvd players- dont know why

This is an odd suggestion. Maybe the PSU is undersized. But if so then one component will not work. I noticed this when i tried to add HDs to an old PC, they just were not detected.

I think if this was the issue either the drive works or not.

Feel this might be more likely.

it aint an off suggestion, my powersafe gold has the same issue.....on of the cables if connected it doesnt read discs , it will get detected and stuff but if i try to anything ,read/write it fails.....

The verify option does exactly that - check for data integrity on the newly written media. if that fails - media is bad. if it happens on more that three discs continuously, burner is bad.

edit: you could also lower the write speed to 8x and test the media. maybe media turns out coasters at high speeds but is good at low speeds.

I will do that now onwards.
12X is not a very fast -but I dont mind in buring at 8x if it gives me good burn

I check the dvd in two other laptop and getting same error for the particular iso. However I am able to copy other two iso to hdd using my dvd rw. somehow the particular iso get corrupted-dont know why.yesterdy I tried with cdcheck-it was working for 4-5 hours and able to extract 490 mb out of 670mb- later i stoped it.I will better download it again .

I burned couple of dvd last night and enabled data varification - and it works. no problem in my dvd rw and current psu.I write a 4.2 gb dvd with ripped dvd movies at 8X and done the data varification-the whole process took around 25 minutes.

I thought I might burnt the current dvd(with corrupted iso) with my older techchom 300 watt psu- and the dvd drive was not able to caliberate properly.

What do you think the reason for this is ?
