I am encountering this message from my avast antivirus every few seconds. Please see the attached screenshot. Why is it coming at this frequent rate inspite of me telling avast to delete the file. It wasnt coming before but i suspect that it only started after i viewed one of pics in someone's profile in orkut bcoz as the pic was opening i started encountering the virus warning. My antivirus is up to date. :@
My windows XP is on D drive

Assuming that you have applied the latest updates and definitions to your AV , it may be so because the "avg.vbs" file is in use and so the AV software can't delete it. You may want try rebooting in safe mode and then delete the file. If that does not work you may restore the system back to a time before the problem appeared . After the restore, reboot in safe mode and scan the entire system for threats . (at least your D:\ drive )

PS: Something like spybot: S&D is a great piece of software and i'd recommend it if you don't have it installed already. Usually warns before any malacious programs are executed.

i started my machine in safe mode but the file was now not existing. May be avast itself deleted it. But now when i start windows i get the windows error message

"Cannot find script file D:\WINDOWS\system32\AVG.vbs"

I have no clue what this file was used for. Is my system now free of that virus

Well maybe your antivirus deleted/quarantined it....check the vault/quarantine file list ...the file should show up there. By the way, remove the file from startup

Start>run > type "msconfig" .

Now go to startup and uncheck the box against the avg.vbs file. It should rid you of the "Cannot find script file D:\WINDOWS\system32\AVG.vbs" message .

Don't forget to scan at least your windows drive once.

Hope it helps.

did u install avg along with avast.. cause avast detects avg as a potential trojan..same thing had happened on my system..run a scan on reboot..or shift to avira.. on guard scanners bet than avast's and gives ur comp the best protection..presently it's the best free antivirus software...
