I have been having this chronic dandruff problem since more than 10 years, that never goes.
After trying some countless medicines and shampoo, its just my hair that seems to be going and not the dandruff.

Has anyone ever got rid of this stubbor dandruff?

Anyone??? :(

I went the opposite way and ignored it hoping that it will go away. That doesn't work either :(

These so called shampoos make matters worse. Use Nizoral, it is bit effective but only upto the extent that the flakes wont come back for a prolonged time vis-a-vis head and shoulders and all those shampoos.

Washing head only with water has least effect and flakes come back rapidly.

Let me know if there's some solution..was goin to visit a doc in a few weeks if it doesnt stop..

@ chiron i ignored it too, but failed:(

There are N number of home remedies that are available but the problem is that the effect varies from individual to individual :(

Some of them i have read are applying lemon juice to hair before going to bath, avoiding certain foods, doing sheerasan so as to increase blood flow to head, applying egg to hair and whatnot

Try Nizral shampoo (Ketoconazole 2%) not Nizoral (which is 1% IMO). Use it for every alternate day for a month. There should be improvement. Also you can try another shampoo called Candid TV. If everything fails contact a Dermatologist.

Yes Nizoral has two variants, the blue bottle costing around 100 bucks is 1% and other is red / maroon color costing something like 125 or more is 2%.

i had dandruff problem in winters only due to dry skin. but it got cured sometime back after i read on a site where someone told to apply Johnsons Baby Oil to the head and massage thoroughly before going to sleep. After 1st application, problem reduced by almost 40%, after two months no problem on scalp. :D

i use that oil now just once a week instead of every alternate day.

If you don't wanna go bald .. go for a crew cut. Maintain it for at least 4-5months then start growing bit by bit.

Also, Nizoral is a good shampoo like raksrules has suggested. But IMO you could just go for a normal shampoo (no anti-dandruff n such) Try dabur vatika. DON'T go for head and shoulder and the likes. They'll just make things worse.

Apply lemon daily and make sure you shampoo your scalp everyday .. just pick one day in a week to wash just with water. Also try n bathe in warm water. And always wash your scalp gently.. you don't have to unroot your hair. And dandruff mostly occurs due to dry scalp, so oil your hair every now and then. Do a mixture of shikakai/aloe vera/amla and apply at least once a week.

Always keep your nails cut, don't scratch your head (unless you are thinking something :P) .. use clean comb, towel, pillow cover, etc.

I think only then you can avoid dandruff (and hairfall).

I never thought the dandruff problem is so common . Even Ive been living with it since almost 1-2 years.Every time i shake my head or run the hand through the hair , hell lot of white dead skin /scalp falls off. It's like a never ending stock of dandruff, keeps falling till i shake my head. :ashamed: :(

Tried most shampoos. Nizaral did help but the Chemist had told me not to use it regularly as it could even be harmful in the long run or to use it diluted.

Will get back to Nizaral and see if things get better ,if not I am seeing a dermatologist soon.

I love all my Black Tees and cant live without them :P

try to avoid junk/oily/deep fried food as much as possible
this along with ur treatment ..diet plays a imp role :\

Johnson Baby Oil....next in shopping list..no seriously. :P

OT: In fact it is even suggested to use the Johnson's baby soap for normal bathing as it does not have that much chemicals which are there in normal dettol etc soaps.

+1 to xerocool

the list goes on which most of the ppl wont follow :P
apart from diet proper sleep timings is imp

Forget about the dieting stuff... that needs the kind of mental fortitude and lifestyle that I (and I'm sure many others here) lack. From what I can tell the only surefire quickfix solution is the Nizral shampoo. Gonna try that for sometime.

Now that winter is close by, the problem will get worse. I also have dry skin and have found that lemon helps to remove dead skin. Also oil your scalp regularly using almond or coconut oil. Drink more water.

Guys dandruff is more common than you think. In fact, it is a very natural thing. That's why every 2 mins they advertise these dandruff shampoos. They make us think as if dandruff is some abnormal condition. Actually these chemicals only get rid of the symptoms.
