Laptops darn kids!

hello,
i work at a school and some of the students have gotten into my laptop :( its running XP.
the mouse works, but the double clicking of a desktop icon pops up the properties screen instead of running or opening the icon.
click on a quick launch icon (bottom left) brings up the properties again.
the keyboard does NOT type in anything. instead the 'f' and 'h' key are either arrow left/right or arrow up/down.
as you can see, this is a mega problem and i can't figure it out at all, any ideas of what they did or how to get things

back? (would prefer to NOT do a system restore point)

^ which laptop ? and is there any keymap software installed ?

also this might sound funny but try it....turn the laptop off....and "tap" each key on the keyboard 2-3 times....like ur typing that character 3 times...and give it a firm stroke...*tap**tap**tap* ......

if - there isnt any keymap or any keysoftware and the *tap* dont work..... then.........keyboard busted...if in warranty...then  or :sad :

run task manager and see if you see any funny processes on...

seems like a prank played by the kids by installing some stealth app that will show up only in the running processes list

@rascal : trojan ...nope not possible...its a sure shot case of "stuck" key or damanged keyboard membrane....keep the "ALT" button pressed on ur kbb and press any one of the icons in the quick launch and see wat happens :)....its a similar kinda situation here....thats why suggested the *tap*n*solve* method if its not a keymap error....nothing else can be done actually speaking.

i think its in the registry...

they tampered with the registry strings...

i dunno abt the keyboard but via the registry u can do stuff like remove option for shutting down and other stupid pranks..

i guess best option is system restore?

or if worst case scenario u gotta backup ur data and clean install xp once more.
