David Shepherd, the popular cricket umpire famous around the world for his ruddy cheeks, sound judgment and habit of hopping on one leg when the score was 111, died last night from cancer at the age of 68.

That is really sad. Boycott was one of my fav commentators at one time. And Shephard was the first umpire I could recognize on the field when I was young. R.I.P.

The respect that David Shepherd commanded on the cricket field and even off it cannot be surpassed by many. He was a true legend of the game. Forget the players, he was better than them.

I will always remember his "Hop at Nelson".
