In general, I match using my ear's comfort level.
It is possible to use the SPL meter to match SPL. All I need is to play a constant tone like 10Khz or so, place the SPL meter accurately over the ear tip and match just once before the comparison begins. Then, all I'd need to do is to remember the (matched SPL) volume levels on the player for each IEM when doing the comparison. I hope my theory is right?
