DBA-02: Definitely Better Audio?

In general, I match using my ear's comfort level.

It is possible to use the SPL meter to match SPL. All I need is to play a constant tone like 10Khz or so, place the SPL meter accurately over the ear tip and match just once before the comparison begins. Then, all I'd need to do is to remember the (matched SPL) volume levels on the player for each IEM when doing the comparison. I hope my theory is right?

great review ....these are certainty under my radar(....DAMN)

hows the sound stage in particular .... have you heard TF10 ...( please compare if you have )

how do they respond to amping ....i know they work great without amps but does amping improve SQ(Soundstage, bass quantity, etc)

i dont think the tf10 boys r gonna dig the dba's. seems liek a good upgrade for the people who like the re0 sound... want some similar .. maybe better.

@strategy,

I honestly don't think DBA-02 stands a chance against TF10 sound stage. I don't have to even try TF10 to say this. The sound stage - as I mentioned in my reply to Faheem - is only as wide as RE0, but has a bit more depth. TF10/ RE-252 as I mentioned in conclusion have a wider sound stage and TF10, if I am not wrong, also has good depth.

As far as bass is concerned, un-amped PFE has like 1, un-amped RE-0 has 2, DBA02 may have 4 on a scale of 10. DDM would be 7, Hippo VB like 7.5, Xears TD-100-I like 8.5... but these are from memory. Will try to compare them side by side. Audio memory is always illusive :P

As toxicdrift says, these are "better RE0". As long as you like the 'in your face' presentation, there are several factors in which DBA-02 is better than RE0. It suits me just fine. To be blunt, I'd have to say this is like RE-0 v1.5 with bugs fixed and GUI enhanced. RE-0 becomes RE-0 v1.2 when amped, just to give you a comparison. For me, the minor differences are worth enjoying, especially the speed which suits most of the music I listen to. Rather than the differences, DBA-02 for me scores better in terms of overall presentation. I cannot say the same for others - YMMV.

As mentioned, they do respond to amp-ing in a classic sense - as in putting out more SPL at lower volume levels in the source. The bass may have improved a notch, but other than that I did not observe major differences like the case with RE0 and PFE. I'll test them again tonight and let you know if I observe any further improvements.

as i am o a tip to delhi....i have to use TF10 ...untill 3 days back i dint like to sound stage and depth of TF10 (felt somwhat narrow ...depth was good ...but still dint quite enjoy them) ....but yesterday ....listing tho them for around 10 Hrs ....changed that ( or staying away from the 702 ) .....even with my ferrari( laptop) they work nicely ( my BB got stolen.....damn!!)

...really came to appreciate them with ....metal and some MJ songs i heard them with

Sound stage of TF10 felt narrow? Were you comparing it to K702's sound stage by any chance? Or you felt it was narrow even for IEMs?

yeah i mostly listened to K702+D1 then ....thats why ...i dint quite like them soundstage wise and even treble wise....i dint want to compare both ...but i have s4, tf10 and k702 .....tf10 are better tha s4 in all aspects .....and better than k702 with bass (quantity .. bass of tf10 is just perfect...really) but now i think the bass can greatly improve with a better amp ( for K702 )..with burn in really ...really 702 are improving !!....bass in getting tighter and increasing in quantity .....tf10 bass is great right out of the box !! ...but i can thnk k702 will surpass them (bass wise with better amp....or better opamp( replacing the D1 stock one)...ill be importing some ....)

sorry i get distracted easily now back top the topic

yes though i did not intend to... i compared TF10 to K702 ...but now as i am with tf10 alone i am starting appreciate the other aspects of tf10 ....yes the sound stage is good ....still i wont call it great...i'd rate them 5 with sound stage ...8 for my k702...3 for s4

@Amarbir,

The hiss comes from the amp. Based on darkadam's post here : MP4 Nation Forums • View topic - SoundMagic PL-30's + Fiio Amp = Hiss?, I decided to do a test.

I connected DBA-02 directly to iBasso T3 without any source and observed the same hiss when +5dB gain switch is employed. RE0 has higher impedence of 64 ohm, sensitivity of 100dB /mw, PFE has 32 ohm impedence and 107 db/mW sensitivity, DBA-02 has 43 ohm impedence and 108 db/mW sensitivity. Since the 32 ohm PFE does not hiss at all, I'd think that T3 does not like the slightly higher sensitivity of DBA-02.

See ,

There you Go .the DBA-02 Could Sense This Better Then Others ,This MEans It Has a Great Response In All stages santosh .Means Better Audio and Better Vocals And Better And Better Lol

^^So get to the point ....when are you getting them ( ....and stop advertising here in audio zone :P )

i asked the livesuppost guy about this ...he said he'd mail me ...i dont get any reply!

That has nothing to do with DBA-02'es efficiency or response :P.

They are a very good IEM, a top-tier one for sure. But, hissing with the amp is no sign of transparency / resolution. It has more to do with Amp - IEM mismatch in impedence and /or sensitivity.
