hmm ... i can even see his cabinet .... but anyways ... maybe its the console release that is creating the confusion ... found this great launch trailer ... really amazing ..
Yes it is the PC version. The game is anything but taxing on the system. I have maxed out every ounce of setting there is @1280x1024 resolution. With V-Sync OFF, I get a steady 67Fps & drops are as low as 56Fps. With V-Sync ON the FPS get capped to 30 which is absurd. Without V-Sync the tearing is unbearable & combine it with the lighting effects it just flickers a lot.
I have completed the first chapter so far & can safely say that it's really good. The sound of this game is something which I can't stop raving about. It's just brilliant. The atmosphere is very creepy & you can really feel those necromorphs presence somewhere around you. They just show up at odd times & scare the sh*t out of you. Sometimes you can see their shadows & when you head out to slice them, they aren't there. Visually it's very similar to Doom 3. Gameplay wise it's a very similar to Resident Evil 4. You start off with a Plasma Cutter & that can dismember the enemies. You can switch it to cut horizontally or vertically.
As you already know there is no HUD in this game. You'll have a full 3D map along with video feeds in full 3D holographic projection as well. Your health meter is embedded on the back of your suit. You can check that in the screenshots. Those green linings at the back are his health bars. Pretty unique concept. The enemies I have encountered so far didn't show much variety. You can upgrade your weapons at upgrade nodes & also purchase new weapons or health kits at the 'Store'. The game isn't a fast Doom III style shooter. It's progressive but takes it's own time. You have checkpoint saves & no quick saving.
Well optimised in terms of performance. But the camera controls are a bit of pain. Your character is focussed towards the far left hand corner of the screen. If you keep shifting the visibility shifts accordingly. At some point he just disappears off & you need to realign the camera. The mouse movements are screwed up, even with V-Sync OFF, it suffers from input lag. You practically have to brush it off 2-3 times before he moves properly. It has direct support for Xbox 360 controller. I plugged it in & had no issues getting adjusted to it. Now I prefer the controller more.
Since it's too early in the game, I won't be able to fully rate it but it's very engrossing game. Definitely a must buy title.
