Top priority for build quality and reliability, has to be customisable to improve battery life when needed for travelling, other tasks include gaming, video editing, and need to run VMs for testing, and some light ml model training. Won't do intensive tasks while travelling

Games: subnautica, upcoming subnautica 3, DD2, dead by daylight, souls games.

Softwares used: Virtual box for Fedora and Ubuntu with Android Studio and Intellij idea, Vegas Pro(might switch to premier pro), loads and loads of chrome tabs, audacity, and some model training.

Not exactly helping you to choose laptop, but rather some know-hows regarding the mentioned CPUs and GPUs.

Unless you specially need the extreme performance of HX (both Intel and amd), stick to H (Intel)/HS (AMD) plateform.
The H/HS have superior battery life compared to their HX counterparts.
If you're fine with couple of hours of battery life, then sure, go with HX series, they're certainly going to give you better
performance.

While inherently Intel has been the worst performer in battery life, the 13th gen chips are very competitive with 7th gen ryzen mobile chips with it, so you won't have to worry about 'is this better or that's better for battery life', both are on par (except for HX, extreme performance is inversely proportional to battery life). I can't say about 14th gen since I don't know much about them.

For AMD, see if 7840HS is available with the second model you've mentioned (I can't open the links for some reason). 7940HS is just a 7840HS but with slightly higher boost clocks (200mhz in base and 100mhz on boost), definitely not worth the price premium it asks for.

Not sure about HP, but lenovo's software (vantage) offers a couple of options to improve battery life such as adaptive refresh rate (changing high refresh rate to 60hz to save battery life), eco/low power modes and whatnot.

Most of the high end laptops have 1440p or higher screens and 4060 really starts struggling there. I'm currently using a laptop with 4060 and 1440p screen and it's fine, it gets 60+ frames most of the time but it cannot run newer games on ultra at 60+ fps. I have to utilise a mix of dlss and slightly lower setting to have enjoyable experience. I don't mind that, but if you do, consider a 4070.
