News DeepSeek.com making waves!

A comparo.

Quoting a comment,
Locally executed deepseek-r1:32b (only 18.48GB file !!!) on RTX 4090 ran mostly faster than in your video and was still very verbose and understandable.
...
Overall I am very impressed a 18.49GB model can actually reason better than average human being and has more specialized knowledge than average human being... really, it is totally nuts and especially if you consider this thing can read and write in most languages known to man and I don't need to have internet connection to have access to it. It runs on the same GPU as your average path traced game... yeah, it does need some processing to be snappy and nice to use. In theory however any computer with 32GB RAM should be able to mull through all the tokens and generate similar responses.

Now I really feel like I am living in XXI century.
Only flying cars and we are also flying and not only talking!

Yo! It's not just 2-3%!

I'm ancient and half of my 10th class is in the US. And, it wasn't even common in my times. Nobody had rich parents. They paid Rs. 200 for our school education.

Some got top-tier scholarships, some settled there through onsite offers.

Most of us were onsite at least one time. The top guy from our class worked for SMIC (Intel of China)
For me the case is reverse. I know about two scores of relatives, classmates, acquaintances who have settled abroad. None of them would be missed. 2-3 are even two try pass outs in HSC(12).

And Yes, On Site is another way except overseas education. But, how many of them are top drawer? IT Big three recruit en masse from local colleges.

But, We all might see things differently, let's just agree to disagree and leave this here...

Corruption is everywhere whether be it India or US & Corrupt Politicians who corrupt the entire system.
thats why we need to vote less corrupt :D

I would not laugh at China "copying" stuff. It directly means we Indians cannot even copy stuff. Our IQ is so low or we are complete idiots that we can't even copy stuff to make our own AI. This directly means our education system is crap compared to Chinese education system. People here mocking/laughing at China are mocking/laughing at ourselves directly.
and few Indian States still reluctant to accept New Education Policy (NEP 2020) to implement in their States.

Are those states better in education than national average ?
Yes (Few Southern States) less population
No (all other states) mass population
As after so many years, every one need to upgrade, syllabus too , just like even my i3- 6th Gen works Great still I'm looking to upgrade to 12th or 14th or any latest in my budget to test speed & few other things.

PS: My bad, as thread get diverted to other way, need to stop replying/posting other than specific to thread title.

What do you think the generic drugs industry or vaccines where we are the world's producer is about?

But the difference is we do it with out of patent stuff. We follow the laws and if they're global then even more religiously.

China doesn't care for any of this. They are not a rule of law country like we are and the rest of the world. China is a govern by law country.

Reflect on what you said here

No this is completely incorrect.

But I will continue to bash China as normal. They are not our friends and mean us no good.

Lmstudio ui is not open source. He may have downloaded a bootleg version or perhaps the system itself is infected.
Unless he shares some evidence, it's all speculation.

Ah yes good point, LMstudio is available cross-platform so maybe (?) it's an Electron app and he's gotten himself infected somewhere/somehow.

So hypothetically if you wrote a book and it sold relatively well and then Open AI used it to train it's model using your book with any compensation or permission, you wouldn't care about it?
If training its model means being able to correctly answer queries pertaining to its contents.

No, why should I be.
And what about when I asked it to quote directly from the book and it the results were reproduced verbatim?
So long as it qualifies under fair use then nothing wrong.
It's not even about it being reproduce verbatim or them providing a summary or whatever, it is about the fact that they did so without explicitly stating that what all data they had collected and trained upon and used it to profit themselves. It's not always about the gray legal areas but it is also about the transparency.
This is where the term 'publicly available' comes in which your first video seemed to mock. No idea why
No actually it is far worse since in text they can still cite the original source but when using their Sora model there is no clear indication as to what the produced result was trained on and that is where it gets dangerously close to blatant copyright infringement.
Give an example so its more clear
And why should Deepseek? Again what they did nothing different than what Open AI did, they just stole from a singular multi billion dollar company and Open AI stole from millions of smaller entities.
I've already explained the difference above which as yet you haven't challenged.
I don't care about Open AI using the works of others to train AI much myself but when they are put in a special box and treated as if they are somewhat special and different than other, well that's where I have a problem.
My issue is with Deepseek. Not with open ai or any other company training their models in a similar manner.
And when saying that "Open AI did their own collection and them stealing is different than Deepseek doing it" you also have to consider that both of them started from a separate baseline, had the roles been reversed Open AI would have 1000% did the same.
This is a hypothetical you are arguing.

I've already explained in simple terms the difference.

People are only disagreeing. Nobody here to date has challenged it.

What do you think the generic drugs industry or vaccines where we are the world's producer is about?

But the difference is we do it with out of patent stuff. We follow the laws and if they're global then even more religiously.

China doesn't care for any of this. They are not a rule of law country like we are and the rest of the world. China is a govern by law country.
repacking other's patents does not mean we are smart. adding or deleting chemicals to an existing medicine is not smart. companies do it all the time to increase their hold on patents.
generics means we are just trying to make life easier for our citizens. Often times it can also mean that some companies don't put enough care into making medicines and sell spurious goods. Example is cold syrups being sold in African countries. We've been called out on the bad quality of our drugs lot of times.
China does not follow the law because China is made the scapegoat in everything. China bad China bad. I'm sure they're fed up of being the good guys and said f it and go into full bad mode. Once people start blaming them for each and everything, they are not going to care whether they follow rules or not since even if they follow rules, they will still be blamed.
Reflect on what you said here
What is there to reflect? Thousands of IIT's coming out and nothing to show for it. Lakhs of graduates and nothing to show for it. Our education system is only good for neutering people's creativity.
If it isn't then it means people lack imagination or out of the box thinking skills.
No this is completely incorrect.

But I will continue to bash China as normal. They are not our friends and mean us no good.

Why so much fuss about deepseek ?
Only cause its Chinese AI and servers in China ?
Fuss is not about its being Chinese.

Fuss is about it beats 'best in the world' o1 model. And, it does that for free. (Watch both videos posted above)

Let's say you have the best game in the world, say, GTA6. Rockstar invested billions into it. Asks you $100 to purchase it. Plus, the Rockstar doesn't let you mod it.
Then comes another game, say, GTAX. Everyone now saying it's better than GTA6. And, its studio gives it away for free. Says, they only invested like 5 millions. The studio says, you can mod GTAX as per your wish, and they don't even care.

Now, people who invested in shares of Rockstar got skeptical about its claim about billion dollar investment.
The video summarizes what I said on the previous page.

@blr_p please watch the video one time.

OpenAI has violated tons of TnC.

At this point you are just arguing for the sake of it, I don't even want to continue seeing that you are so far gone into this that you are not willing to even look at the facts , you have either ever created something by yourself in your life or it hasn't been copied or stolen by someone else without your prior knowledge so you don't know how it feels. Unfortunately, Open AI is not a community project but a government and private funded multi billion dollar organization that only works for profits, if you can't separate that from an open source piece of software there is something wrong there. Before I say something offensive or something which I might regret later I am going to step away from this pointless argument. Anyway boys relax and enjoy the memes:

China does not follow the law because China is made the scapegoat in everything.
No, you have that backwards.

Once you understand that the CCP is nothing more than a mafia. It starts to make sense.
China bad China bad. I'm sure they're fed up of being the good guys and said f it and go into full bad mode. Once people start blaming them for each and everything, they are not going to care whether they follow rules or not since even if they follow rules, they will still be blamed.
Does this really need an explanation when they use a fake border dispute to create tension with us since independence?

Everything we faced then the world is waking up to recently. It took Trump to reverse a half century policy of aiding & abetting the enemy that Kissinger began. Glad to see him live long enough to witness what Trump did
What is there to reflect?
Pointing out the fake equivalence you made between India & China.
At this point you are just arguing for the sake of it, I don't even want to continue seeing that you are so far gone into this that you are not willing to even look at the facts <snip>
No, I have argued my points wuth examples all throughout. I see nothing wrong with what I have posted at all and neither are you capable of showing it.

You are just ignoring what I said and repeating your same points. And blaming me for challenging you.
Unfortunately, Open AI is not a community project but a government and private funded multi billion dollar organization that only works for profits,
So what. I don't see any anything unfortunate there.
if you can't separate that from an open source piece of software there is something wrong there.
Open source can't infringe on others work. I also countered how training doesn't amount to copyright infringement. As I understood it.

And I'm starting to think NO CASE will be successful in this regard.
Before I say something offensive or something which I might regret later I am going to step away from this pointless argument. Anyway boys relax and enjoy the memes:
Good then I'll take that as your concession to this discussion.
