Justice Karnan who walks in film style wearing a coat is Chinnaswamy Swaminathan Karnan.
They are coming out after a six month jail sentence for contempt of court. (Dec 2017)
Karnan is not an ordinary person. He was a Madras High Court judge. The first Dalit judge there. He is also the first judge to be sentenced to jail while being a judge. Now there's a reason to talk about them.
He had sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017. A letter information about 20 judges corruption. This letter became a major controversy. This caused a constitutional crisis.
For the first time in history an current judge has accused other judges of corruption. The central government was not ready to issue this letter. Supreme Court registered contempt case against Justice Karnan.
Judge Karnan sentenced Supreme Court Chief Justice and some other judges to five years of harsh imprisonment. Well, the Supreme Court won the case.
They got six months in prison sentence. That time the protesters said they were crazy. But now that black money worth millions of rupees has been recovered from a judge's house, it has become clear that Karnan was right.
Nobody can improve the judiciary other than the court. This was a humble effort from Justice Karnan. We have no choice but to expect more such judges!!
