Hi,

Whats the difference between

DellTM UltraSharpTM 1908WFP 19" Widescreen

Flat Panel Monitor

And
DellTM SE198WFP 19" Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

?

Other than swivel stand and the 4 USB ports? Anything else? I mean what accounts for the 2k difference? :)

Well, the Ultrasharp's overall quality & display sharpness is a little better apart from what you've already mentioned ...

The UltraSharpTM Advantage

UltraSharpTM monitors are designed to fit just about any situation and give you a comfortable viewing experience. Adjust the height, tilt the panel forward and backward, swivel it left-to-right, even pivot from landscape mode to portrait mode. The UltraSharpTM 1908WFP adjusts to fit your optimal viewing position. Convenient USB 2.0 ports help you avoid the hassle of running out of USB ports on your PC or reaching around the back to access them.

USB ports are powered by monitor's power .. Power off monitor and usb ports goes off , they act as external USB 2.0 hub ( mine is ultrasharp 2208wfp and thats how it works ) . The swivel stand that comes with these monitor is way better than normal one's . I don't know about actual display quality since i don't have any experience with e229wfp counterpart of this one .

If your not very keen on the extra usb ports & all the extra swivel adjustments, you could just go for the Dell E198WFP..

A great monitor indeed & worth its price..

DVI + VGA Input !

Current Price :Rs.10,282

^^^^^^^^correction to the above quote as stick pointed out to me :)

9.2 is the dell website price. prob add 20% on top for final price ;)

The cheapest 19" would still be the GO ones for around 10k in the last GO i believe :) or look for employee discounts ;)

Uh... wuts Dell EPP?? :S Employee Discounts?? And incase i wanna order a Dell lappy.. who here is an employee?? :bleh: :)

Ok, so finally:

1. screen qualitywise, ultrasharp screen is worth the extra amount? Can someone with an ultrasharp monitor confirm? :)

2. What are my options for non-TN panels in India? lets say 22" and BELOW. Anything in 19"? :) Just wondering pricewise and stuff ;)

1. Yes.. 10 chars.. [+ the 4port USB hub, height-adjustable stand and tilt-swivel feature]

2. Minimal. Non-TN panels're expensive least to say. [Eg. The Dell 2007 WFP comes with an S-IPS panel; This will set u back by roughly 20k;] I dont think there're non-TN panels in the 19"er category AFAIK. :)

1. okie. so the ultrasharp is worth it with better screen quality :) Cool. I can live without the extra USB and stand etc actually, though if the screen is worth it I ll take it over the non-ultrasharp model :)

2. 20" seems too costly for non-TN :( + the 1600 res will kill my 88GT  Too bad nothin in 19". something around 15k i would have spent if it meant much better images ;) nz, thats out then.

BTW, my primary purpose is movies and games. Some photo viewing and mabe once in a while picasa to edit basic images taken with a P&S :P

Any more suggestions welcome. Dont suggest a 22" though. I dont like what that resolution will do to my graphics card, the whole concept of gaming well will get screwed :( N not plannin a graphics upgrade anytime soon. This monitor upgrade will just about finish me.

Dude, get the E198WFP;

Its by far one of the best TN panels in the 19"er category. Period.

Has a good contrast ratio and retails for 10k+. :)

Hey gannu, but what about the DellTM UltraSharpTM 1908WFP 19" Widescreen

Flat Panel Monitor? max 2k difference, probably less. Isnt the screen worth the extra price then? :)

The Ultrasharp variant and the E198WFP have the same performance characteristics [contrast ratio, brightness and response time].

The Ultrasharp in addition has a Height-adjustable stand, tilt, swivel and pivot feature.

I dont think there'll be any difference in the visual quality offered by the two. :)

Thats exactly what I have been asking in this thread ;)

Trying to confirm whether the so-called ultrasharp screen is worth the extra cost involved or not? So you mean it makes no difference screen quality wise?

EDIT:

Also, as per the dell specs page:

for the ultrasharp, it says:

Preset Display Modes

VESA, 720 x 400 – 31.5 kHz Horizontal, 70.0 Hz Vertical, 28.3 MHz

VESA, 640 x 480 – 31.5 kHz Horizontal, 60.0 Hz Vertical, 25.2 MHz

VESA, 640 x 480 – 37.5 kHz Horizontal, 75.0 Hz Vertical, 31.5 MHz

VESA, 800 x 600 – 37.9 kHz Horizontal, 60.3 Hz Vertical, 49.5 MHz

VESA, 800 x 600 – 46.9 kHz Horizontal, 75.0 Hz Vertical, 49.5 MHz

VESA, 1024 x 768 – 48.4 kHz Horizontal, 60.0 Hz Vertical, 65.0 MHz

VESA, 1024 x 768 – 60.0 kHz Horizontal, 75.0 Hz Vertical, 78.8 MHz

VESA, 1152 x 864 – 67.5 kHz Horizontal, 75.0 Hz Vertical, 108 MHz

VESA, 1280 x 800 – 61.6 kHz Horizontal, 59.81 Hz Vertical, 83.5 MHz

VESA, 1280 x 1024 – 64.0 kHz Horizontal, 60.0 Hz Vertical, 135 MHz

VESA, 1280 x 1024 – 80.0 kHz Horizontal, 75.0 Hz Vertical, 135 MHz

VESA, 1440 x 900 – 55.9 kHz Horizontal, 60.0 Hz Vertical, 106.5 MHz

This is not mentioned in the specs for the SE198. So is this present there or not? Can someone throw light on this one? :)
