DellTM E228WFP 22" -

20" - 24" LCD Monitor

well, so far this is the best price i have got in India for such big monitor.. am i missing something cheaper n better available?

19" wide samsung costs approx 14k.. is the above link quotation for 22" DELL LCD monitor - wide is worth the price, or one should wait for some immediate drops in prices expected? just wanna get an opinion before purchasing the same.. Thanks..:)

As discussed b4 its a TN panel. u would be beter of with a viewsonic vx2025...
Dell has 2 variants for monitors..one is termed "entry level" by them which is a TN panel and the other is termed "Ultrasharp", the costlier better panel.

ofcourse even the 19" wide 940bw is just a TN panel again...

The thing is for most first time users a difference isn't noticable. I just got an 8 bit panel to test, and the color difference and visuals in games are noticeable when both monitors are kept side by side...There's an immediate difference. Also movies, especially lower res crap looks better on non-TN panels.

I'm about to take the LCD plunge again and am looking for something below 28K in the 20.1~22 inch category...personal reason to await details...

Incidentally I spoke to some dell guys about this panel (have an inside contact remember? :P ) Seems its really good...buggers won't send a piece to test though... ;)

More advice from guru's like funky, chaos, and rio awaited...

Atleast in my case, I do not need a reference monitor to sense the difference between a relatively good panel and a regular TN panel. Both my Dell 2007WFP has well as the Apple Cinema Displays at office standout even when seen without a reference. In fact I had gone for a CRT with my older rig after looking at the regular TN Panels at office. I dont know about the newer TN Panels though, but the 20" Intel based IMac we have at office uses a TN Panel and it dosnt look very good. The viewing angle is also very limited on these displays. Though a wider viewing angle is advertised with the newer TN Panels, they just dont look good from an angle and you have to sit right in front of the display to get a good quality viewing.

Also note that the 22" display will have same resolution as the 20". so the pixels are larger in size and I guess poor to average quality videos will look even more blocky on such a display.

imo going for a good 20" Panel would be better than going for a average 22" Panel. If you want a bigger display, go for the 24" Dell2407 then.

That seriously is one hell of an awesome deal !

How much is the VX2025WM ? and still its 20.1".. who cares which panel, your getting 2 inches more :P

LOL I'll take a smaller P-MVA/S-IPS over TN anyday :P. Infact I'll take an S-IPS over anything else out there :P.

in that case 19" is the best deal from what you say. paying 10k more for 3" isnt worth it. 19 is around 12.5k & a 22" is around 22.5-23k. both TN panels.

well its a good range of information given by you guys.. thanks to all.. but i want to also make this clear that i shouldn't cross 20k (at max 23k) limit in price and as suggested by one of you that going for a non TN model like ViewSonic VX2025wm - ViewSonic - Products - VX2025wm then whats the approx price of this model? Its not displayed at theitdepot.. well better quality viewing is indeed required and i shall strictly follow your advices in this regard.. I just have to figure out which models are good and whats their price? could you plz help in this regard? thanks

All I'll say is you've seriously got your facts upside down....no other words come to mind...

Quality of viewing has nothing to do with size. Size matters but only secondary here...:P

this Dell 22" is a CMV 221D most likely. I agree that p-mva/s-ips panels have greater color reproduction, but i must admit that some of the new panels like this CMV 221D I'm talking abt are of sure one of the best TN panels around. I'm using it for past 3 weeks now, & atleast in games the LCD is amazingly sharp, bright & accurate in colors. In desktop mode, a little configuration on my ATi drivers & I have everything smooth. The side angles are really really good. Even the top angle view isn't bad at the native resolution.

I don't understand silly statements like "paying 10k more for just 3 inches". Guyz grow up & stop evaluating monitors in Rs. per inches. I guess according to u someone buying 24" for 40K odd is a complete fag ?? paying 3 times of a 19" ? Atleast don't corrupt someone else's mind who's going in for a good display.

In my personal opinion, 20.1" like vx2025 is a little tight space for 1680x1050. yes its an enormous resolution & u will need to do settings on the font sizes. 22" is always more room for the 1680 resol. Just to mention, I have seen vx2025 also, & its a great LCD, but i guess if u can arrange the CMV 221D on the same price range with a little bargaining. I'd suggest trying a demo of 221D if u can arrange for it. U can check some HARDforums, AVS & other renowned sites which really praised the CMV 221D. This TN is definitely not the usual type I can bet.

u dont understand english do u. what i said was in regard to what anish had to say. if u thought about a little what i wrote you will understand my sarcastic remark cause ive even quoted anish. next time please read properly b4 u write anything that comes to your mind. if i actually thought like what ive wrote, i wouldnt have got the vx2025 myself by spending 8k more for 1.1" would i.

& what u say about 1680 x 1050 being too low for a 20" is more or less incorrect. you do not need to adjust font sizes at all. it will change from person to person depending on the eyesite & the distance from the screen.

i have gone through few reviews of CMV 221D.. this DELL 22" is based on CMV? i mean dell coloborated with CMV manufacturers, but are you sure this DELL 22" is based on CMV? n you said u have this model CMV 221D, how much did it cost you?

TN models shouldn't be that bad also.. ultra sharps of dell and others should be good.. but the question is that, should these extra inches of such Dell TN models be compared with the ultra sharp displays of small size models in terms of price for performance ratio??

well, i have 20k to spend (max 23k as i mentioned for DELL 22").. now you guys shop for me..am a web developer..

C'mon guys...chill re :)

Yep an 8 bit panel is worth the hike. however good TN's just cannot match up. Yeah the 22" dell tempted me too. However you just need to see MVA/PVA and IPS panels with a regular TN side by side.

One thing I noticed. VCDs look hopeless on TN panels....oops can I make a generalization. I should say it looks that way in my VX924.
Games and DVDs look fine.

you are a web developer....go with S-IPS or MVA man...
now Iam just going by the rules...dunno hw this 8-bit TN panel compares....

i have read reviews about S-IPS and MVA.. they look impressive.. but i need their prices?

I was reading an interesting article the other day..It seems that dell changes the panel of a display without announcing it to the customers...So you might have a 20 inch s-ips panel and some other guy might be buying the same panel but it might be TN....Not sure though

TNs are usually Cheap,

n u can always ask them if its SIPS or TN or SPVA, just email one of the sales executive, they are usually very helpful, if they know wht ur asking :)
