Dell has dropped the price of its Android 2.2 loving Dell Streak down to US $399.99. The only bad side is that you have to wait for it as the estimated ship date is set at 10th of January. Of course we are talking about an unlocked Carbon Black 16GB version.

The device ships with Android 1.6 but you'll get a 2.2 update once the device gets some internet. The US $180 price-cut came as a surprise and without a direct announcement from Dell but our guess is that Dell is simply feeling the heat from other Android slates as users are going for a larger screen devices in the same class.

The 32GB version also got a US $180 price drop and is currently listed at Dell's site for US $498.99. Europe, or to be precise, German Dell, is still listing it at €549, and we are not sure if we'll see a price update there as well, but you can find it here available for as low as €409.

Dell drops Streak to US $400

So $400 is not that bad a price for a unlocked Android phone with top of the line specs :D

All these Android devices were overpriced and with onslaught of dirt cheap chinese imitations, the price drop was bound to happen.

That's a massive price drop, but it's a little too big to be used as a phone IMO. It's good for people looking for a small tablet though.

However, this might push other manufacturers to drop prices. Also if this is reflected in India, then I guess Dell XCD35 should also drop easily, if Dell Streak is available for ~23-24k.

Add about 35$ as taxes while checking out as well . Makes it ~20k for anyone getting it through a friend/relative from US . Still a pretty awesome deal :D

How much will it cost in India?
17-19k i guess

And yes, the Android devices are overpriced, and their displays are cheap and pathetic(except the top of the line 30k phones, and Samsung Wave)

why is streak so praised?

at the price point viewsonic gtablet is much more vfm..

if 3G is important then the sibling Point Of View has the same tablet in 3G variant..

10" screen along with dual core cortex A9 is something to consider at the price point if you really want a tablet.

Well the streak is pocketable. Barely, but it just about is. Of course you look like an idiot making calls with it but thats why there's bluetooth :P

Oh and the streak has a gorgeous screen. Viewing angles of the G tablet put me off, else i would have bought one. And the streak was just a bit too big for my taste. Max i would go to is 4.3"

streak is too small for a tablet and too huge for a phone.

forget Gtablet, even Notion Ink Adam with normal LCD would fall under that price range with 3G.

Dell is still overpriced, they are taking the customers for a ride for the brand name. xcd35 is the best example of it, not just a zte blade but a degraded version of it.. priced double and they still want to cut cost and we wonder why..!!
