Errr bad idea. Get the MX2. AS5 seems to be electrically conductive so if a bit flows out to the outer regions of the core, it might short some components.

Stick to MX2. :)
Didnt check the thread and so he got a AS5 :ashamed:

Anyways i will not have enough time to meet him up to clean the lappy. He is going to get the dust out in a local laptop store at his place!

Will sell off the AS5 then. How much will the 3.5G pack fetch? ~Rs.350 shipped?

hi,

I have the same laptop with me. Initially i faced the same problem as yours. Laptop used to shutdown frequently.. There is one really simple solution to fix this. Inspiron 1525's air vent is on the back of the laptop. Blow some air into using the mouth 2 or 3 times and all the dust will fly off from the fan. this will definitely resolve the problem. I have been doing this at least once in a month from last 3 years on my laptop and it doesn't overheat at all.

I have a DELL XPS M1330 - I'm getting artifacts on my screen too. I'm assuming its the GPU. The laptop is out of warranty.

Any suggestions as to what I should do?

What are the deals for DELL warranty in Mumbai.

Do you suggest I repair the laptop or sell off all the parts (- the HDD)

Cheers

^Artifacts could possible be because of the GPU vRAMs being defective. It might have overheated for a prolonged duration which generally is the cause for such artifacts. How old is this laptop? Repairing might be an expensive proposition. You should however consult Dell and find out the possible charges incurred.

dude it's a dead gpu vertical lines is a prevalent problem ... either you now bake the mobo which has a 50-50 chance of coming back to life / try reflowing ... or get a replacement mobo which dell shall quote you at 10k + service ... if you opt for extending warranty they'll send someone to check the laptop but he'll see tht it's not working and report back then you'll hve to bear the repair cost of mobo + service then your warranty starts for which you pay extra 7k-9k.

dell sure knows how to suck it's customer's hard earned money... don't go by my word call their customer care and ask them the above mentioned^^

Thanks guys. The issue is solved now. Reason is dust. A local dealer has cleared the dust and charged only Rs.200. Didnt even have to remove the CPU Cooler.
Finally i asked him today about whether he uses the laptop bag and he said he never keeps the laptop in his bag and it always lies on the table :@

How much will the Arctic Silver AS5 3.5G pack fetch? Got it from Amazon.

Is it with nVIDIA graphic chip?, Dell XPS M1330 is known for graphic chip problem, did you connect with external monitor and check if it is also having junk display, all laptop graphic chips will be having two separate display lines. you can go for bga chip replacement.
