Hey guys, am ordering a Notebook from US... Have gone through both Dell & HP & both boil down to almost the same price (+/-5% & a few gimmicks)

Would like your views which one out of Dell & Hp whould I prefer & please advice if for any particular reason so....thanks:hap2:

Also if HP - if I take AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Processor - it makes a diff of 200/250 $ - please adice

i would buy a dell. have heard many complaints with hardware failure with the hp laptops from my friends. personally i own the dell inspiron 1705 & have had no probs with it so far.

I have been using a Compaq V2000 for the last 2 yrs without any issues so far *knocks on wood*

As for Dells, have seen quite a few problems on the cheaper Inspirons, though their higher end stuff has excellent build quality

I am using a Compaq V2000 series lappy myself. I am happy with it. But i suggest u either go for Dell or Thinkpad. Dell has good laptops. IBM Thinkpad has excellent build quality ( though u can still buy them in india under thinkpad brand , i doubt whether they still make it ).

The new dv2000 series from HP is fantastic. Excellent build quality and good performance as well. Check out the dv2117TX

What's your budget ?

Check some of the models on the dell India site, may suit your needs locally itself

thanks for your responses, split right in between lol...

I am choosing between the dell 1505 (= to old 6400) & hp 6000, if I get it from US it comes to around 55/60K... here its 25K + for the same shi...

i was fixed on the dell but after seeing & configuring the hp to my needs its total confusion as both are cut throatt competitive... others are out of league in sheer compitition between these 2 in VFM sense...now i am tilting toward the hp cause it giving me lightscribe i/o of normal dvdrw... & go 7600 instead of ati 1400 - am i right in doing so ?

Can someone advice which of the screens is better:

17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)

Bring images and movies to life with HP's BrightView technology! BrightView technology improves the contrast and clarity of your notebook display screen. The 17-inch WSXGA+ BrightView display with high-definition means brighter, more vivid and color-rich images like you've never seen before in a notebook computer. The superb resolution of WSXGA+ (1680x1050 pixels) delivers movies, photos, gaming, and multi-tasking at a whole new level. High-Definition content (e.g. WMV HD files) is required to view high-definition images. Most current DVDs do not provide high-definition images.

17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)

Bigger, brighter, better!! HP's Ultra BrightView is a composite of all available LCD technologies currently offered by HP consumer notebooks. Ultra BrightView displays include an improved color gamut rated at 72% - more colors can be displayed as a result of the improved technology!

i own a dell as well.. n its def the best build quality ive ever seen in a lappy! hp is not too far behind..

could you advice which of the above screen should I go for as the 1st one is cheaper but has a higher resolution.. Dell has a resolution of 1920x1200, will 1680x1050 makes much difference ? or should I take dell only...

both cost $1550 but difference is:

1) Dell higher resolution screen
2) HP - giving Lightscribe i/o normal DVDRW
3) Also integrated mic & Web-cam in HP - where as no such option for dell
4) Dell - X1400/7900 GS vs. HP - 7600 GS
5) Dell - 6 cell bat vs. HP 8 cell

Thanks for you reply..

Hey Baron,

Besides the obvious difference between the resolutions, the brightview and ultra bright view differ in their brightness. Ultra brightview has 220 nits and brightview has 170 nits (HP figures) If you are getting from HP India, then there is not much of a choice. Get the model which suits your requirement. If its Ultra brightview then it would be icing on the cake with that extra screen brightness due to the dual lamps. I dont think you should worry about those resolutions. WSXGA are usually rare.

I know it has been a long time... hoping you can refer me to where you found those HP figures!
