Hi,

I have bought Dell S2409W recently by seeing all the good reviews and I must say I am disappointed. I sold off my 22" samsung 2233sw to buy this 24 incher.

The black levels are very poor. The details in the black shades are lost. Dark regions of the movies are completely lost.

The brightness is also very very low compared to samsung. In my old lcd I used to keep the brightness levels below 50 always and still it was very bright. Now I am using this at 100 without satisfaction.

I used this link previously to check the dark levels
Black level - Lagom LCD test

Old samsung showed all levels except first two. In dell I am not able to distinguish upto 9 whatever settings I change.

The only +ve compared to 2233sw is the Stand, little less blacklight bleeding(First of all there is low brightness then how will light bleed) the extra 2" and HDMI Input.

Although the Black light bleed in 2233sw is not too bad. it has some comparatively.

In pursuit of Larger and better brand I think I screwed up pretty badly with this deal. I am missing my samsung now.

Please add your comments and suggestions.

secret tip!

spoil your dell somehow and get a better 24incher or 26 incher!

i've had excellent luck with my dell lcds---MIND YOU I HAVEN"T SPOILED THEM INTENTIONALLY!!

i had a 19inch 1908wfp---then last month i got a p2210 -22incher--becasue the 1908 had 4 dead pixels and now the p2210 got spoilt--wouldnt start so dell gave me a 24 inch g2410 --which i am planning to sell!!

thx for info.. m also planning to buy 24" .. was confused btw dell nd benq.. now i will definately go with benq E2420HD

Dude, may be you should call Dell customer care and get it checked. I've had this monitor for almost 6 months now, and so far it's been WORKING AWESOME!!! (touchwood :P) My Xbox 360 and Hi Def movies look awesome as ever, and my brightness is set not more than 55 for regular office work and 60/70 bright/contrast for movies and games :)

There is definitely something wrong with your panel man.

I thought I was only awake.....

I tried changing almost all settings..Although not many settings are available actually...

Dont want to damage anything..Some times they may backfire

Yes..Will call them...^^Did u find a chance to compare with 2233sw...Also could you plz check with this http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php and confirm...

One more thing I should mention is I dont know whether it is the right way to check LCD displays black levels

Damm strangely their(Dell Customer care only 9-6 mon 2 sat) working hours are same as mine

I have always told everyone to avoid Samsung & Dell Monitors

No current Dell Model can give detailed blacks due to Backlight Bleeding issues (except maybe U2410 & 2709WFP)

Buy BenQ if you want good blacks

I've had a Dell 2007WFP for 1.5yrs & it had the same issue

:P
even i could distinguish all the squares on my crt:hap2:

I love this monitor. My only complain is about the level of contrast it has is relatively low compared to Samsung. I have contrast set to max and brightness set to about 60. Apart from that, it's really good.

OK. Had a chat with customer care.

The testing procedure was to power on the monitor and remove the VGA cable and check whether the brightness has increased. I thought WTF.........

Then he said I would receive a new monitor on Monday. I asked him I dont want a new monitor..I just wanted this issue sorted. He said they can't do anything, but send a new monitor.

I wish it has no more issues...

lol ! looks like someone else would get lucky with their dell lcd!!!

probable lcds:::

g2410

w2408

maybe a 26 incher!!

dont worry, you will get a better monitor for sure. anybody will love to get a new monitor then have to continue using a repaired one having known the monitor had problems
