Dell Studio 15 | No Backlit Keyboard!!

i was looking to buy dell studio 15, but while configuring it, i noticed there was no backlit keyboard.. need to buy it asap.. :(

but as rumors are floating about new studio xps 15, don't have any idea if it's just temporary or a long delay..

checked on dell.com, there was a backlit kb for studio 15..
 
Dont know whats the reason but lately the customisation options have reduced drastically on dell india website, earlier you could upgrade your screen to full HD, get better graphics card(ati 565v),backlit keyboard etc.. they may give these options again after few days as dell website is constantly updated,so you may like to wait for a few days and also call them to get more info on this.
 
yeah.. full-hd option is removed too.. i would be really happy if they are in for a nice upgrade, i mean a good upgrade to the config with good prices..
 
You can expect some big upgrades within few days on dell website as studio 14 isnt there and also studio xps series will be listed with better hardware.
 
The studio line is being shut off..Dell is launching a new xps line 14, 15 and 17 soon.. The studio line would come back in action after some time and thats why studio 14 has been taken off and the studio 15 is next..
 
guys, i'm looking to buy studio 15 and have almost ordered one.. have a guy who works in dell and i'll be getting the laptop with backlit keyboard.. now, as my budget is around 42-43k and i'm going for the base config of s15..

now, i wanna know will it really be worth waiting for this new series??

i don't want the lappy for gaming but for movies, music, programming and other data work.. though, optimus will be more than welcome..
 
you can wait for the new studio xps series as you will get better graphics option as well as much better battery life due to nvidia optimus but i dont think studio xps will be launched in 40-45k range as its always priced above 55k but you never know,if you have some important work with the laptop then buy the studio but if you can wait for few weeks and spend some more money then its worth waiting for xps series.
 
as far as rumors are to believe, the new series is gonna be either studio xps or the xps series and as you've said, that sxps series will not be launching in the 40-45k range, that's a rare possibility..

so, i think i'll take my chances and will go with this studio 15, thanks for your advice..
 
i spoke with a guy..he told me that dell is also reviving the STudio series..they aint gonna put a stop on it thats for sure..What he said was that first the xps line is coming up and after that studio models would be away for a while for the revival..and then they would also be back with a bang..thats y u dont see studio 14 on dell india website these days and soon the studio 15 would be gone too..

@hackboy89...i myself purchased a studio 15 3 weeks back and it is an amazing machine..so, great choice..
 
any idea about the pricing of the new xps series... and when are they gonna be here.. though, i hate the new designs, i love the current studios..
 
The new xps series is priced much lower than the earlier xps/sxps models and you can expect the base models in the range of 40-45k:)
 
they dont even look like XPS ,they have become uglier after 2008 XPS refresh . Looks like a mixture of mini and inspiron , they are already up on dell US and many other Dell sites . Uptil now i havent seen customization options for display and the looks are not even acceptable for the price range it will be sold
 
yeah.. the current studios look way better than these new xps..

and i don't think that the xps will be in the 40-45k range as on dell.com, the studio 15 prices start from 600$ which has its base model priced for 42k in india, on the other hand, the xps series are in the 800$ range so going by this comparison, the xps's coming the 40-45k category seems pretty low.. i think they will put more customization options in the inspiron series..

PS: they have made the xps ugly so as to save alienware, just a thought..
 
Yea, i agree the xps series looks ugly in the pics..bt may be theyd look better in person..Also, as per a source the studio series would go under a revamp and also make a cum back after some time in the same segment..but who knows how long that might be...
 
well, i've aborted my plans to buy the studio 15 for now, will wait for the xps series as their uk prices give a sign that in india, they may be priced in the 40-45k range (starting price).. there were a couple of reasons for me to wait for the xps:

1) nvidia graphics (and i think even in the base model, there will be atleast an nvidia 420m)

2) nvidia optimus (worth the wait in a dell laptop)

3) hdmi 1.4 (capable of 3d streaming to 3d compatible screen)

4) well of course it looks like inspiron but still it'd be better for me to carry the newer model instead of old studios design

i just hope they bring them to india before diwali.. fingers crossed!!
 
nvidia is offering comparable performance and power consumption . nothing spectacular here , power consumpion might be more since it will switch every time you see a flash video . i dont think they can bring it before diwali . some of the laptops are assembled in india to save manufacturing costs
