Every democratic govt out there secretly (or not so secretly) dreams about becoming a dictatorship. The people ultimately hold the power in a democracy and it is their support that lends power to the govt and when too much of it is given, people will at some point lose control. When people stop treating the public servants as such and start idolizing them and acting like their tools, the servants change into full time masters. It is every citizens right and duty to be critical of their govt's actions and it is not necessary to patronize the govt for doing its duty. When you hire a servant, you do not praise them for doing the work they are paid for, but you would chide them when they break your stuff or make a mess. This does not mean that you have to be disrespectful, but you don't try to cover up their mistakes with silly excuses either.
Every dictatorship in history got created when people gave too much power to a person/govt and not bothered what those people were doing. As aptly stated, Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. If people don't cease this idiotic and slavish mentality of being rabid fans of this or that political party and/or leader, it won't take long for this country to turn into something much worse than North Korea. For the record, North Korea aka Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea is also a democracy and people should know what kind of a democracy it is and how the "elections" are conducted there. We are already nearly there as far as elections goes. If the present govt gets control of the supreme court as well (for which they are trying very hard), what's going to stop them anymore? Even if they don't abolish democracy altogether, I no longer see a prospect of fair elections in another 1-2 years. In Telangana itself, after the TRS came into power, the first order of business for KCR was to get the entire police system into his pockets by giving them lavish salary hikes, perks and what not. Because of that, he has near dictatorial control in many places in the state and in subsequent smaller scale elections, apparently, in some of these places, the police themselves stood near booths and forced people to vote for TRS candidates. Elections are now rendered useless in many parts of the state. His strategy was different, but there is nothing stopping something like that from being done on a larger scale by the central govt.
In this whole fiasco of demonetization, the govt has been changing tune everyday. fake currency claim was dispelled quickly as it didn't take even a week for fake notes to come into the market due to absence of any fresh security measures. The black money eradication claim doesn't even make sense as they made every effort to ensure that the black money hoards of their near and dear are not affected. There is no doubt that removing high denomination notes is a correct direction for stopping hoarding, but nothing else about the implementation suggests that it has anything to do with stopping blank money. The Rs 2000 note should never have existed and in addition it also looks like certain people had access to this new currency even before it reached the banks and not only that they had access to it before the announcement. How did these people get access to 10's or 100's of crores of Rs 2000 notes. No single bank gets that much money. A moderate size HDFC bank branch was being supplied with 8~10 Lac in Rs 2000 notes each day when the supply was good.
