Sony's list of PS3-exclusive third party games continues to diminish. Capcom has just announced their plans to make Devil May Cry 4 a multi-platform game. The game is now in development for the Xbox 360 and the PC, with the 360 version launching simultaneously as the PS3 version.

"Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal," said Mark Beaumont , executive vice president, officer and head of Capcom consumer software publishing in the Americas and Europe said in the latest press release.

While making the game accessible to the largest audience possible is admirable, Sony must now ensure that they do not lose further exclusives. Currently, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII are still slated for PS3-exclusive release, but Sony must make every effort that Konami and Square Enix don't follow suit.

Devil May Cry 4 no longer a PS3 exclusive - PS3 Fanboy

I wonder when dead rising and lost planet will go the other way. Maybe not until the ps3 achieves a sizeable install base in NA.

Capcom go to the dark side (360, PC) . Translation courtesy of google/babelfish -

Another day another PS3 exclusive goes up in smoke. General consensus is that MGS 4 is going to follow suit soon. Releasing Home and Little big planet is all well and good but Sony seems to have forgotten that the reason they won the last gen (so decisively) was on the strength of PS2 exclusives. If MGS 4 jumps ship (and in all likelyhood it sounds like it) all the PS3 has left in big name games is FF XIII. And I am not even going to list the interview with FF boss saying that it should be ported to the 360.

Still I am not complaining. I plan to buy a 360 soon and have no plans on getting a PS3 so more inter-platform titles/360 exclusives would be welcome AFAIC.

With a difference of just 4 minutes at that. This isn't that big news, guys.

This comes as no surprise. Both Dead rising and Lost planet were 500K sellers with lost planet reaching the 500K mark in just under a month. The x360 is bringing in the money and that's where the devs will go.

You shouldn't be saying things like that. It's not like this game isn't coming on the PS3. I feel once the PS3 does establish itself, we'll be seeing many x360 exclusives being pulled away from it and being made multi-platform.

And there's no way MGS4 will be going to X360 simply because :

1. The game is already 'too short' for Bluray. Now imagine how badly this would go to X360 DVD9.

2. The game has story mimicking the 'Cell Processor' in the Ps3. Otakon's robot that tracks Snake in the trailer, is powered and functioned by 'Cell'.

Keeping these two things in mind, either it will be a big-timed exclusive with that cutscene removed and content compressed and cut so it could fit on a DVD9, or it'll just stay on the Ps3.

Besides, 'HOME' has potential of becoming the next big thing after youtube/myspace.

Though, you can see 'R.I.P PS3' coming from me the day Final Fantasy 13 leaves Ps3. All damages done now will be repaired by Square Enix's exclusives like Kingdom Hearts and FF.

As for DMC4, it'll be good to see which platform performs better, as this was in development for Ps3 since a long time.

Multi-platform benefits game developers as they can target a wider audience and sell more games, so this is obvious.

If they can do it within their alloted budget and time they would do it.

It's funny when they say tht making titles available to as wide an audience as possible...sooo where's lost planet and Dead rising for ps3??Something smells fishy...*cough*Microsoft a'holes*cough*.Even though they said dead rising sequels are being made(Note tht it's sequels and not just a sequel)for the 360,they still didn't mention anything for the ps3.Come to think of it.the only games I know of capcom is making for the ps3 is DMC4 and RE5..

Oh well,Hope ps3 gets some real good titles...till then I'll just wait for red faction 3.

As long as we get them its fine! If Capcom can go exclusive to Nintendo after years of Sony loyalty, its a big thing PS3 is getting RE and DMC. And RE was always multiplatform. All numbered RE titles also exist on PC. And besides, why do we need to worry MadM? We're Ps360 owners (or will be pretty soon) :ohyeah:

And I thought Chaos' reply was over the top.

Even though this is official?

We've been through this already. The X360 already has excellent looking titles that all fit on one DVD. The extra space would only matter if the DMC has been known to have tons of CGI. Does it?

all the remaining stuff you've typed also sounds irrelevant.

Looks like somebody's got Metal Gear Solid 4 confused with Devil May Cry 4....

I was talking about MGS4 up there, and yes, MGS4 may not have CGI, it will have cutscenes that would collectively sum up to an hour, a two, or maybe more. I really wouldn't argue other way around for now at least, since the fact that the Bluray is too small came from the Man Hideo Kojima himself. Blue Dragon's already ate up 3 DVD9's.

That would make even less sense then. Why bring up MGS4 in a thread about DMC4? and yeah, Blue Dragon has tons of FMV's that demand a ton of space. Not sure how or why though. Graphically, the game isn't anything groundbreaking although it does have one of the best art-styles I've ever seen.

I just quoted that for posterity :). I think I'll bump this when MGS for 360 is announced. And about your two points.

1 Worst case scenario : if they can't put it on a single DVD 9 why can't they use two? MGS series has never been about seamless gameplay (ala Half life etc) It moves from area to area. As an example imagine the virtous mission of Snake eater in one DVD and the rest of the game in the second. Would that make any differance? Would you not buy the game if that happened. Of course not.

2nd Point. LOL. Just L O freakin L. Kojima himself says that MGS is easily possible on the 360 hardware. The "Cell" that you treat like the giant black rock from 2001 a space odyssey is just a freaking' processor. Its like saying you need an Intel processor to run notepad and AMD just wont' do.

Edit : Horrible timing by Capcom though, just three days before the Europe launch.

Eh!! Dun remember tht statement where kojima stated tht mgs4 is easily possible on 360..could you give a link..

It's unbelievable that people believe that MGS4 isn't possible on the X360. Naturally, it's one of the last vestiges of something exclusive to the PS3 that Sony fans direly hold on to since every other one has fallen down to the x360, so this isn't surprising.

Err params, CGI videos would take up a lot of space. MGS generally uses engine cutscenes which doesn't require anything else than the art assets already present in the game. So unless kojima is duplicating data for redundancy and faster access times (due to the 2x drive) and putting mgs in all languages including swahili only then a blu-ray disc will be filled up. Other than that mgs4 could be a timed exclusive and might be ported to the x360 later.

^^Exactly... a game has to have really braindead art to exceed 25GB without cutscenes. The typical example... Oblivion with all the art assets, the 2GB unofficial texture pack as well as tonnes of mods is a meagre 7GB installed. Hell flight simulator x which has accurate scenery from the world over fits in 2 single layer DVDs and installs to 14GB :P.
