Combat in DMC 4 was killer! I still recall those days. Let us see how the rest fares.

DMC 4 was blazing fast, in terms of combat. In contrast to that, I think DMC1 will be very slow. However, it has got this dark gothic theme and OST, which is really awesome. Not to mention, some excellent locations. Do re-play DMC3. If you've played it on the PC, then it's definitely not the proper one. I don't even need to mention any reason for re-playing DMC3.

Started DMC yesterday and paused it thanks to Game of Thrones E9. Will continue today evening!

Started the game yesterday and completed the first 9 chapters in a single sitting. But some of them were ridiculously short. The first chapter took me a whopping 41 minutes thanks to the old fixed camera angle system, I ended up searching the whole castle for a door that unlocks with a rusty old key. The visuals aren't great but they aren't too bad for a remastered title either. Some of the cutscenes are displayed in a windowed 4:3 letterbox mode. The game is fairly simple compared to DmC 3 and 4 with limited enemy AI and extremely simple boss fights but that's alright since this is the first title that started it all. The style based combat feels good and solid.

Hoping to complete it this weekend! :P

Can you give your mark based on series.
For me,
Dmc3:se is 10/10
Dmc 4: is 7/10.
Never played the rest.

I have just completed DMC 3 and 4 till date. I'd easily rate DMC 3 above DMC 4 for what was offered in terms of gameplay, combat and storyline. DMC 1 is good but feels ancient as on today comparing it to 3 and 4 but that's alright since it was the debut title in the series so that's there. Anyhow I've paused the game thanks to Max Payne 3. Will resume it after I complete it.

DMC3 you never cease to amaze me. Vergil's final boss battle performed without touching the ground (ZOMG!!):

There was a time when people used to make quality games. Btw yes with practice its possible for that you have to play dmc 3 only for days.

I am playing DMC 1 and seem to be stuck. Can someone tell me how to defeat the lion that is released when I break the seal in the courtyard? Do I need to purchase a particular skill to beat it. It just swoops down and all I can do is dodge the moment I try to attack it I land up getting killed in a few moves.

I assume you mean the fight with 'Shadow'? From what I can remember, you'll need to be on your toes with this fight and have Ebony & Ivory equipped or a Shotgun. This is a tricky little bastard, so you'll need to memorise his attack patterns and dodge. Keep your distance and fire away with Ebony & Ivory. Once you do enough damage with them, his core should be exposed (round ball) and this is your time to do some heavy damage. Hit Devil Trigger and slash away at it with Alastor, if you have purchased the stinger move, use it. Devil Trigger in this fight is extremely crucial.

@Ethan_Hunt - Thanks for replying.

Note to self - Don't be stingy and spend red orbs. Considering I am still near the start of the game I didn't purchase anything and went in empty handed.

I will try again tomorrow with the move equipped.

I can keep going back to the room where I defeated Phantom and fail the objective of killing a certain amount of the small spiders and earn more orbs. This should be helpful as well.

The only DMC game I have completed so far is 4 and this doesn't seem that linear. At first everytime Phantom chased me down the hallway I went till the end instead of the first exit to the right. I was lost for hours trying to figure out the path. I hope I get past this stage tomorrow as I was getting frustrated - initially lost, now stuck.

Re-playing levels is certainly a great way for both practice and gaining extra orbs. The first Devil May Cry isn't overtly complex, yet, very challenging. I had a hard time with it back when I played it. The final battle was really difficult, but nothing compared to DMC3's fight. If you haven't played DMC3, I'd suggest you start it immediately after you're done with this game. It's a great change of pace. I know what you mean when you loose your path. Despite it's limited map size, we can easily get stuck in certain areas. Stick with it, the game is frustrating, but eventually, rewarding.

Thanks. Managed to beat the lion. This got easier each time I had to fight it.

1st attempt - Beat it but nearly died. There is a glitch on the fountain in the center of the courtyard. I got stuck in it and the lion created spikes right there. Escaped that and beat it. The health left did help but I decided to explore a bit before the just unlocked door. A few enemies to fight. There is an opening in the floor tried to investigate that and was sent back to the first room in the corridor that has a library and Sin Scissors. Lost a lot of health. Went into the battle with Nelo Angelo with little health thinking I had a Vital Star. Died. Reset.
2nd attempt - No exploring this time. Killed the lion, bought a Vital Star and into battle with Nelo Angelo. He switches location for the second time I have nearly won. Had used the Vital Star prior to this. Was low on health. Jumped up to the location and the jerk was just waiting and kills me in 1 shot when I jumped to reach the higher platform. Reset.
3rd attempt - In the room just before going into battle saved the game. Decided to go all guns blazing and take chances. Died pretty quickly. Loaded the last save game - at the start of the level. Thinking I wouldn't be chased anymore proceeded. Killed by Phantom. Reset.
4th attempt - Loaded the new save game. Went into battle really angry. Was beating him easy but after the first location switch he hits me immediately and get knocked off. I can't shoot at him because he keeps blocking and can't reach the platform either as he is there ready to attack.

Quit for the day. Will try again when I am not livid.

Would like to play 2 as well.

I am playing this game on normal, I am still dying so early on in the game and loosing Yellow Orbs that it is embarrassing.

Funniest thing is the Nelo really looks easy to beat, simply dodge dash attacks land behind him and attack. Attack him when he is charging for projectile attack but the game cheats when locations switch.
