Hi!

As some of you know I got a new system and today decided to test everything before assembling it.

I ran into all sorts of problems. I will list them below, kindly help me in diagnosing the problems:-

CONFIG DETAILS:

Amd Phenom 2 X4 955 BE

Gigabyte 785GMT-USB3

Corsair VX 550 psu

GPUS-ATI HD 4870/HD 4350/Nvidia 8800gt

OCZ platinum 1600mhz fsb ram

wd blue 640gb aaks

sony dru 870s writer

[1]Everything was connected and using one ram module (ocz 1600mhz platinum) i decide to boot the system--system starts--I get display on the screen-I power off the system

[2]I now connect both 2x2 gb ddr3 1600 mhz ocz ram in dual channel mode and power on system--no response-no display--psu and cpu fans spin-i power off the system

[3]I connect only stick 2 of the ocz ram as stick 1 booted just fine--i power on system--no response--no display

[4]I connect stick 1 again and boot into the bios to discover the motherboard detects the 1600mhz ram but runs it @ 1066mhz--i manually change the dram frequency to 1600mhz-save settings in the bios and reboot

[5]System boots again--the sony dvd writer and wd 640gb blue are properly detected. ram stick 1 running at timings 7-7-7 which are default timings-pc health check in bios shows - system temp @ 44-45 degrees and cpu temp @ 48-50 degrees--heatsink and thermal paste used are the stock ones provided by AMD. room temperature is 30-32 degrees and there is no AC in my room. CPU voltage is 1.440 V. I am using my ATi HD 4870 to power the display. I power off the system

[6]I connect both ram modules 1 and 2 to boot into the system after setting dram frequency to manual--no display no response fans are spinning. I power off the system.

[7] I decide to only use ram stick 2 which did not give me display on both occasions before. No response no display-I power off the system.

[8]I use ram stick 1 to boot again - system starts I boot - ram frequency reset to 1066Mhz--I set it to 1600mhz manually and reboot. System boots into bios and now I suddenly get purple dotted lines on the display/LCD.

[9]I reboot system and now the system doesn't display anything only the cpu and psu fans spin.

[10]On changing gpu to ati 4350/ nvidia 8800gt i get proper display. But only 2gb of ram works.

NOW,

[1]What can the issue be?

[2]Are the CPU temperatures normal?--Itwares will ship the Artic TX 2 thermal paste on Monday--I can use it with the coolermaster TX 3 HSF.

[3]How do I determine stepping and wattage of my 955BE cpu-whether it is 125W or 95W?

[4] I believe something is wrong with the ram--where do I rma OCZ rams in India?

Re: Need Help In Diagnosing The Problems

Would have helped if you posted your entire config. ~_~

Did you check if the memory you are using is certified in your motherboard's qualified memory list?

If yes, check if the memory allows EPP for your platform. (Since you mentioned a 955BE, I'm assuming you are on an AMD platform)

If you have access to other sticks, try those out too. You could eliminate the possibility of the DIMM banks being faulty.
