Me and my friend, both have N79. I never compared our cellphones considering the same model. Few days back, we went on hangout after college. I just took both mobiles, started camera application and clicked the same picture on both cellphones.. Surprisingly there was big difference in camera quality.. My cellphone had lots of spots and not clear image but other cell had..

We restored both mobile phones and camera settings but it didn't helped.. The Only difference between our mobile was, My device was on firmware 32.001 and his was 11.049...

How can same models differ in camera quality? :@ I got cheated in case of camera quality. :@

The same thing happened to my on my old nokia phone. My phone cam was way worse than another phone of the same model and which had the same firmware.
The only difference was that my phone was made in China and his was made somewhere else dont remember where.
Check where the phones were made.

Many times, cellphone manufacturer add/fix stuff for camera in their firmwares. I remember having significant quality difference in two different firmwares for one of the old SE phone (not sure which model, didn't belong to me). I had similar experience with my Moto Z6 back in the days, when camera quality was improved after certain firmware update.

So it's nothing surprising that same model with different firmwares could differ in camera quality, or overall performance in general.

Same the case with my Nokia n82 when i compared it with my friends n82, daylight shots were average in my cell,Firmware was latest in mine, still wondering wts the cause.

The firmware of the phone configures the software used by the camera for noise reduction and other little tweaks.

So different firmware on the same phone would result in different quality of images.

Ofcourse the other little things such as cleaning the lens, keeping the phone steady also make difference :)

Therefore Rahul, its not a big deal if you got a different image quality... Check the firmware update logs to see what changes have been done for the camera :)

Firmwares change the compression levels and algorithms, and many other things..

As for spots, that seems more like a hardware problem, clean the cam and see..

So Updating firmware was the wrong decision for me , any way to downgrade firmware? AFAIK, it is impossible...

have u tried Nokia priority centre.. ask them.. they might do something about the firmware... sometimes lens also requires cleaning... my friend had this kind of issue too but his problem was fixed after the phone service...

one classic case was the n73 ... the newer 4XX series firmware just killed the cam with too much compression.

Clean the lens, if there are spots, the lens is dirty. And i dont mean on the outside, it might be dirty even outside. it actually happened to my phone. Had to remove the phone cover and clean the lens on the inside. IF you arent sure DO NOT try it on your own, go the the service centre and ask them to do it

You will have to take it to a service centre for a direct hardware flash (using flash boxes like JAF, UFS HWK...), to an older version.

As for the difference in IQ:

- Firmware upgrade?

- Camera lens maintenance?

- Settings?

+1 .. try this... this actually helps sometimes :)

same was issue with my n73 and n70 when i compared to my friends cell.

On his cell the captured pictures appeared somewhat yellowish and so also his phone displat was bit dullish/yellowish too. Whereas mine was totally snow white crystal clear. We did went to nokia care but heard some weird things and were sent back without anything. They simply said as far as display is clear and everything is working fine theres no need to worry. Our firmwares were latest too. Except i bought both cellphones in 2007 and he bought them in end 2008.
