DiGi cam for 10k

Guys can u comment on the quality of Fuji cameras i am kinda inclined towards the Fuji Finepix 5100/5500. Does any one know the image quality compared to nikon 5600 model?

can anyone explain me the dpi of the images. I find the dpi of nikon camera to be 300dpi and of fuji 72dpi for same resolution, how does it make difference?

Fujis have a terrible amount of noise in general, besides the S5500 has a rather slowing focusing system. Avoid it!

DPI (Dots Per Inch) comes into play when you're printing images. You won't be able to differentiate between a shot taken at 72 DPI and one taken at 300 DPI on your computer screen. This is because by default, the monitor works at 96 DPI, so anything higher will be indistinguishable. However, the print industry uses 300 DPI as the norm. Any magazine you pick up is printed at 300 DPI. If you try printing an image shot at 72 DPI even from your home inkjet printer, it'll look terrible. I suggest that if you intend to take prints of the pictures you take then worry about the DPI. It doesn't matter otherwise.

Regarding ISO, ANY decent Canon, Nikon, Kodak, Sony etc camera will have the facility to change the ISO. In fact, don't buy any camera that doesn't give you ISO options!

For about 10-15k, go for a Canon A85. It's less bulky and more ergonomic than the A95. Colour reproduction is also more accurate. I remember finding the A85 much better when I did the digital camera comparison for CHIP magazine back in March I think. The only downside is that it doesn't use any proprietary batteries. Instead, it uses 4 ordinary AAs, so they run out pretty fast. Other than that, it's the best you can buy for the price you pay. I find Canon a lot stronger in the middle-range. Nikon however is much better in the high-end section.

Anyway, I hope this helped.

what do u mean by slowing focusing system? kindly explain it :)

Slow focusing as in it has a slow auto-focus. When you half click the shutter in order for the camera to focus, it takes a little more time that what's comfortable.

I did some homework on dpi and got to know it wont matter :)
The reason is that if you take the image size of Fuji at 4M with resolution 2272x1704 at 72dpi the image size will be reported as 31 x 23 inch and for a 5600 with images at similar resolution at 300dpi the size wll be reported as 8.64 X 6.48
Now if u do the math both work out same, fuji image will print equally good if u resize the image thus reducing the size of print to that of nikon for similar clarity :)

I hope i have made some useful contribution :)

Nice observation! Yep that's true. But Nikons by default are at 300 DPI so you don't have to go through the incovenience of resampling all your images.

Thats too cheap a SD card and a li'l expensive for the xD card. 512MB SD/MMC card usually retail at around 2~2.2k. The xD card are always expensive, though. JJMehta.com is a very reliable site and you can buy from them directly if u find their price to be OK. I bought my digicam + batteries + charger + 512MB xD card from them. U send a DD or deposit money into their a/c directly, call them up and let them know of the deposit and they'll ship the stuff to you.
