You do realize that your are comparing a recertified D200 with a brand new XTi?

If you are OK with recertified, then definitely go with the D200. Also, I hope you are genuinely interested in photography, else no point going for a DSLR. Better get a good Point'n Shoot like a S5 or G7.

cos Canon is pretty good quality and the Canon in the link above is brand new and not recertified. :)

Also, if you are not a hardcore photography enthusiast then go with the powershot series rather than these. N do some search on the net, more megapixels does not always mean better photographs ;)

ok...so it proves ur a newbie with cameras, thats all :P

Those are two completely different cameras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are a serious serious photographer then n only then look at the EOS series :D no use otherwise.

The other cam u picked..is the exact opposite of the EOS series. extremely compact and fully automatic.

Oh, n heres some info: No one and absolutely no one..needs a camera above 6 MegaPixels unless u wanna play around with a megazoom (like>10X) or wanna take wall size printouts!!!!!!!!!!!

So considering that you are new to cameras and stuff.....stick to the powershot series. Oh, and the SD900 aint that good. Look for the SD series cameras with Optical Image Stabilisation (IS).

And PLEASE do NOT look at the 10 Megapixel moniker :P

Doesnt mean a thing when it comes to photo quality :D

For full auto and extremely compact cams:

Canon SD850IS, SD800IS, SD700IS

If you want a camera with some advanced manual settings so that you can play around and learn as well as auto photo modes:

Canon A710IS, A570IS

And the grand daddy of Cool cams (IMO),for some auto stuff, huge zoom and advanced manual stuff to play around with too in case your interested:

Canon S3IS and the latest S5IS.

Dont buy anything directly: check out the reviews over at

Steve's Digicams - Camera Reviews

for all cameras your interested in and then buy.

Stay away from DSLRs (Digital SLRs) like the Nikon D series and the Canon EOS/Rebel etc. if you are not a serious photography expert. These are professional cameras requiring lots of settings and knowledge. Not for taking normal pics and carrying around everywhere. :) No offense intended. Just that your options were at two completely different ends of the spectrum :D

Hmmm a lil OT but wanna illustrate more to what techie_007 siad, a 10MP cam means that I have captured more details in my pic.

What that translates to is better quality zoom (not the optical zoom, the software one, the one you do on a PC or maybe a MAC)

So I have a 10MP pic, now I want say something very distant not so visible in a say 5*7" printout...

Cut that general area, the new pic still remains say 3 MP...enough for a 4*6" printout...

Meaning, zoom without using zoom function...

Now add optical zoom to that(say 3x), and for say 4*6" prints...one has a virtual 9x zoom...

If your looking at professional photography & knw how the working of Aperture, exposure, shutter speed etc then DSLR Rebel Xti is the right choice. But if your click and shoot kinda person who still want the best quality then G7 is the best u can get.

G7 is the next best thing to DSLR.
Its kinda DSLR with auto mode, ie it controls the apperture, exposure,Ev etc auto. You do hav the options to control tat too.

If your get use to Cannon then it becomes really easy even if u switch to professional series. For instance dials on sony cams are diffrent and r nt universal standards.

Plus G7 is easy to carry arround as compared to DSLR where you need a decent bag. I have one with 2 lens 35mm and 75-300 tele lens, cause of its bulkness i ofter hav to leave it at home. G7 can be carried in pocket and always ready to shoot and click ;)

well g7 produces superior image quality.but the S5is has longer zoom.the G7 can record videos at 1024x768@15fps but cannot zoom in that mode it can record at regular 640x480@30fps u can use the zoom in this mode.the G7 uses expensive Lion batteries wheres the S5is uses regular AA size batteries and has a longer battery life, it records videos at regular 640x480@30fps.

errrrrrrrr...My vote to the S5IS for the better battery support (AA) and great zoom. The G7 is too professional type for my taste (read as in extremely large number of manual settings :D) even compared to the S5IS which has a lot of them.

The G7 is still a camera for quite advanced users rather than beinner level. With the S5 you get the best of both worlds: full support for beginners and lots of manual options for when you want to try them out.

IMO get the S5IS and if after 1 year or so you feel that you have learnt enough about serious photography to get a more high end cam then go for a DSLR directly. :D

Just my 2 cents.

hey techie_007 can u suggest other camera like S5IS with same features and performance but it should be small

see...if you want more manual settings then you have to sacrifice size :P

Best IMO is still the S3IS... The S5 doesnt have as good reviews as the S3 did.

If you are willing to go for a smaller number of manual settings with small size then check out the other powershots like the 560IS and the 710IS, they have smaller zoom lenses compared to the S3 and S5. But they also have quite a number of manual settings which will be more than adequate for a beginner to play around with.

Go check out the S3 in a shop, its not that large also :D

If you feel it is too big for you, then check out the 560 or the 710.

Any models smaller than this wont have manual settings, you will be stuck with all auto point n shoot stuff.

Hope this helps.

Agreed G7 is a semi-professional cam, but it also has all the auto features that a regular camera would have.

Only reason y the G7 looses market is the looks, no raw & price. The retro look to a digi cam looks more like a old film cam. Raw image format would have been an added candy :) .. Cannon decided to remove this feature in G7 where as all the older G-series (G5,G6) had them.

Apart from that features like conversional lens compatibility which lets you mount any professional lens if at all u wana do so.

Plus G7 has the new Digi III image processor which is really talked about in the digital photography world:) .
Yes techie_007 is also right about S5. lol infact the more you read the more confused u ll become. Just get one which suites your style;)
