Hi guys,
I have vista rtm 32 bit installed in my comp, i have 7900gt graohic card.

i wanna know which ver of diretx can i use? well i know that my card is diretx 9 card but can i install diretx 10 and use it with this card with some loss in performance?

i have a query and i hope u wont mind me asking this quest. in ur thread....as it is somewhat similar to u r question....

hmm what if i have a 8800GTX (or any direct X 10 card...) and i install VISTA RTM ...does the dx 10 software automatically gets installed ??.or there's only

dx 9.0c by default and we need to separately install dx. 10.??...or is the dx. 10 still not a finished product. ??

and which released game makes use of full direct x 10 card and software ?

Well i have taken this screen shot & plz tell me why it is displaying diretx ver as 10.

directX is installed by default in vista (just try dxdiag and see the directx version). If no DX10 hardware is detected, vista will run in DX9 L mode

Let it ... does it really matter ?? its using a native dx9 api built into the dx10 library .. put it like this -> a toned down ver. of dx10 ..

dxdiag shows the version of dx software that is INSTALLEED ON THE SYSTEM.it doesnt show the hardware DX version.

Also, all versions of DX are backward compatible so, a DX9 can also DX7;DX10 can run DX9.

Best way to explain it :P

True till dx9, but isn't it known that dx9 will have to be 'emulated' on vista and that it won't really be backward compatible?

And I dont think MS is also gonna release a Win XP ver.

yeah cauz they want the gamers to buy VISTA ..to enjoy dx 10..

**@@$%& microsoft...they will never stop playing there monopoly games..

but i seriously think vista is a good step forward for windows.I had my doubts before, but after using vista im impressed.

I think Vista's WDDM is the right way forward. For once, you dont have to worry about the eyecandy on the desktop slowing down your games.

They can't release dx10 for XP. Knowing a little bit about the driver model you can see that the kinds of drivers needed are necessarily different.

Whether dx10 needs to use those fancy new features is a question I cannot answer.

@hardware freak: yes you do...only that you need a directx 10 card to make use of that api...otherwise you'll only use the directx 9l api...
