But afterwards i had to face another problem this time it was the Laptop's display hinge which got broken all of sudden despite me having purchased 2 years HP care pack(paid 7500 bucks)i had to shell out 4500 bucks for getting it repaired by HP service engineer.

Well, I experienced lenovo RMA once. My friend has a lenovo lappy and someone broken the hinge by mistake. yeah, some physically broke the hinge by accident. We contacted Lenovo care, kolkata and went there. They told that this was due to physical damage and can't be covered by warranty. So they didn't accept it. But they said to us that if we can get a RMA registration no., they can take the case. So we called lenovo toll free number, registered the case as loosing hinge :p and got RMA number. Then we went again to the lenovo care and they replaced the hinge and the faulty DVD writer within 12-13 days. We had good experience. :)

just went through the link posted by archish .... the first time i visited the service centre i was asked 30k for the mainboard (cost greater than the laptop) ......since me and bro was sure that it was a nvidia problem we checked the sites for extended warranty ...at first visit only the bios was updated........ and the HP PEOPLE CHARGED MONEY FROM PEOPLE WHO DIDNT KNEW THEY HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE NVIDIA LAPTOPS

May i tell you guys some fact about HP service
HP doesn't own any service centres, but the authorized service providers do the service for HP.When a customer is approaching the service center, the service engineer had to identify the problem and order the part.the part ordering is not a easy Job.Any way after ordering the part it takes minimum one week to arrive the same. Also opening the laptop is a tedious job.Replacing a laptop motherboard take around 20 to 30 mins.So the delay is not the fault of service center guys.HP or any other vendor doesn't provide any software warranty. But still customers take there laptop and come to service centre for software and virus issues.why dont they go to the retailers where they purchased it.Most of them are not even bothered about to take a copy of the recovery partition.
After all laptops are electronics stuff and chance of going kaput is high.the users have to take care of there things seriously.
Everyother person is complaining about the HP service, may i ask you some questions
1.Which brand allow to extended warranty after the warranty period is expired.
2.Which company is offering AMC after three years
everyone is praising DELL for there service, may i ask you a qouestion what is the market share of DELL?much much less than HP.
Onething is to be noted that HP is not permitting to take multiple complaints at a time.ie if the optical drive is not working, please don't wait for another month but take it immediately to the service center and get it replaced.
So i request everybody, please dont ask the service center guys to replace the laptop immediately,as i said it takes some time.If you have any complaints regarding the service please take the issue to HP directly,I am sure they will take it seriously.
BTW me works in an HP authorized service center in kerala:hap2:

The better stuff in India is u better learn all the stuff b4 u buy it...else this mushrooming service centres will put a huge hole in your pocket even for software glitches saying this stuff gone bad etc

Most problematic models of the HP/COMPAQ laptops we work on in our service centre

DV2000 series

DV6000 series

V3000 series

V6000 series

DV9000 series

All NVIDIA based BGA chipsets ( especially NF-G6150- N-A2 chip) & few intel based MOBO's. Most of the time we reflow the BGA IC, will work for some months then we have to replace BGA IC for permanent solution.

It will always be a problem with laptop manufactures and thats a fact. Reasons are many, however the most important is customization. You see, its like you can't buy laptop motherboards over the counter. These manufacturers go through lengths to get the hardware as they want it, locked down with any kind of restrictions they fancy according to the price range and get it manufactured dirt cheap from some company in Taiwan. They are always searching for every way possible to reduce costs hence they will always prefer parts which die out over time, which translates to extra spending by the customer.

You say conspiracy theory, I say look at a company which pays millions of dollars on advertising, wont think of a way to test and find the kind of parts which have a life around 1 year or a bit more only?

I have seen and heard a lot. When I was working with a PC manufacturer ( a big one ), I had access to all kinda documents which had in depth mention about bloated capacitors to leaking motherboards which are defined biohazard.

These companies are capable of anything. Desktop is way better in terms of reliability, at least assembled ones.

Everything manufactured in India is of substandard quality. This is not just for Electronic goods, you can even find same company same product tastes better outside India.

I don't know why companies do this. Why can't they increase the price & offer better quality products instead of reducing both & increase our expenses ??

I always try to buy expensive stuffs from outside even if they are a bit expensive.
