Video dish TV or TATA sky

I have both dishtv and tatasky, and based on my experience i am giving you the difference and better option to choose:
First: Number of channels are more in dishtv (178) and tatasky (120)
Second:
More number of regional channels for all genres. Tatasky lacks in this
Third:
More options in Movie on demand and also choice to see hollywood Movie as well...but Tatasky lacks in this option
Fourth: Cost per movie for movie on demand is less in dishtv Rs.40+taxes for Hindi and Rs.50+taxes for English.....where as tatasky charge Rs.75 for Hindi...No english option...Tata sky lacks here as well.
Fifth: Economical: Dishtv is more economical then tatasky about Rs.1000 also having offer for five months free...but tatasky donot have any offer and are more costlier.
Sixth: Harware of both are same quality.
Seventh: Picture and sound quality is same almost.
Eight: Customer service of dishtv is coming up and having slightly better then tatasky.

These are solely my view on both services might be yours are different from this as well

Plus Ave heard somewhere that DishTV now offers VGA Output signal which offers a better signal while viewing on LCDs when compared to the normal non-HD signal on other cable providers.

Yes that right dishtv is offering VGA boxes as wll for better experience of viewing on computers also it has dual advantage that it will work with you TV and with computer both.

Forfurther details check the following link:
VGA Box: Video Graphics Array (VGA)

Dish TV is giving 6 months Subscription free while TATA is giving just 3 months worth of free subs
well when i bought tata sky i got 6 months subs free i just wanted to get rid of the idiot cable tv guy and i am interested in only few channels so quantity never bothered me.

Sat tv is not good during rains.
well tata sky was running fine even in rain (drizzle-mild) but when it rained cats n dogs then had to switch over the cable tv lol the cable wallas here never bother to take money for the cable connection, plus channels used to go off/on sometimes which irritated me esp when i m watching something interesting (which is y i switched over)

1. Dish TV got some unique channels (MGM, TV5Monde-french, DW-German,TCM). I watch DishTV still because of this only. And TV5MOnde is going out withing two days because they ask 150 Rupees per month for this single channel. They three more channels left. DW is free to air. You can watch this even without DishTV form NSS6.
............

Isnt there a cap of Rs 5 Max for a channel ?

TATA = more content + high quality + 'OK' price.
TATA STK = Less Content + High Quality (No issue with quality) + 'High' Price.
Dishtv = More Content + High Quality (No issue with Quality) + 'Low' Price.

Tata Sky has BBC Entertainment! I find Skys menus easier to use. Also found Dish to have blocky/pixeled picture in some channels.

I have both, prefer Tata, though TCM and MGM are missed. Also I believe that in the future Tata will be better, as they have Sky backing and so hopfully some good channels. Found Dish to be unreliable - got it first as they had TCM, MGM, Goal1 and 2, the two soccer only channels as well as MCM music channel, which became Trace TV. Goal went off just as I got the connection (without notice) and Trace soon after :(

BTW isnt there a new rule coming out that says all STB will be unlocked, and that users can change service as easy as changing sim cards in Mobiles?

Hi friends,
Ignoring preaching from Neo001 since his religion is DishTV marketing.
I want to review both service providers again.
1. Channel information is missing most of the time and most of the channels in DishTV. TATA Sky is upto date.
2. DishTV bootup time is too much. means if you turn off and on, it takes a lot of time for STB to comeup. Its BAD
3. some good news is that DWTV is back again. But there is a problem. This german international channel changes the video format to 16:9 for their non-news programmes. But dishTV broadcast in 4:3. So you miss some part of the frame.
4. I am missing EuroNews too.
5. I want to know how many of you watch more than 30 channels? Number of channels is a gimmik. And the service is very expensive.
6. CAS must implement to control the DTH providers immediately. We continue to loss money. How much bribe they paid to the TRAI and Ministry of Communication?
7. DTH is not much affected by rain. The cutoff time will be only a few minutes just before the rain, that too if the cloud accumulates between the dish and the satellite.

8. If you set programme alert ( on both services), and if you power off, your alerts stored are gone forever. They are expecting customers to set the alerts and ensure that 24 hr power ON the STB. GReat
9. If any time technician visits you , you have to pay him min 250. Good buisiness.

remaining, later....

if you can wait for big tv? then consider that, dish and tata are both mpeg2 as their stb, but big tv is mpeg 4. that means more channel on lesser transponder

Dude TATA Sky is excellent. I have been using it for quite some time and no problems at all. Customer service is up to dated. digital quality. not 2 new channels have been added to it UTV Movies + Bindass. i have got supersaver pack + gold pack. 380 per month and the results regarding quality are excellent. TATA SKY really ISKO LAGA DALA TO LIFE KYA SAB KUCH JHINGA LALALALALALALALALALAL....GO GO MAN GO FOR IT..

Both of them suck with LCD, am building HTPC for LCD. Tata/DishTV have seen them side by side on defaults and IMHO they both suck at this or the other place.
