Hi

Whenever i start my pc it gives an error just before the windows xp boot logo and says disk read error occurred press ctrl + alt + del to restart, my bro was using the pc before this happened, so i dont know what triggered this to happen looked over google but got many many solutions, got confused.Gave a try to converting my OS partition from NTFS to Fat32 using partition magic but it gave error 1516 and 1508...
I dont want to miss my data on the HDD

Thank you

It would be best if you can get some IT engineer down to your house. Most prolly its just the hdd cables loose, but the HDD also may be failing. As a basic check, if the PC can boot up, run a tool to check the SMART status of the HDD.

How to check hard disk SMART status. Hard drive S.M.A.R.T. monitor

If you see any errors in this, you need to get your data off this disk and buy a new disk asap.

- Cheers :D

Solved the problem by making my secondary drive as primary and then using windows recovery console to chkdsk /r and its working fine now...anyways thank you guys
