I need the display (graphics) IC for a Dell Latitude D500 laptop. It's my friend's laptop, I don't even know how does the IC look like. Even an used IC will do as long as it brings the laptop back to working condition. If someone can provide a used motherboard for this model at a throw-away price, that also should be fine.

If anyone can sell this IC to me or direct me to someone who might have this, it would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Does it have an add-in slot for graphics?

You are obviously aware that a laptop integrates the graphics core in the Northbridge for the most part? Those with expandable graphics have a separate slot.

What is the exact problem with the machine?

the machine powers on without any display.. the caps lock light blinks for a few seconds & the laptop turns off
sorry i can give u only symptoms.. my repair guy tells me the graphic (display) IC needs replacement which is not easily available. he can arrange for a used mobo for 6.5k which is pricey i guess

How old is this laptop btw? If you can spend close to ~7k, you are better off with a Complete Cover pack from Dell and get the parts replaced. But I suppose the laptop should not be older than 3 years from the date of purchase.

fair, that's all I wanted to know. The motherboard may indeed be defective and I'm not sure you really have an option other than to change the motherboard. Just getting a Northbridge will be next to impossible, and then changing a BGA chips is all but impossible.

thanks for the help.. i'll probably ask my friend to dispose off the laptop (it should be easily 6-7 years old), even the battery is not functioning.
