Laptops Display revival.

display on my friends laptop is dead. (works fine via vga-out)

had given it for checking to local guy who quoted 4k stating that the inverter is busted.

want to know if im being ridiculed here

Laptop Details:

HCL Notebook P28 PDC

i am not well acquainted with laptop hardware but i can open it.

i'm not sure how much it shall cost.

is it the power inverted for the CFL backlight?

if so, where in mumbai (navi mumbai preferred) can it be acquired.

also, how can i test the CFL inverter ?

Inverters normally cost around 500-1000 bux. You can order them from eBay. Very simple to replace. Its a small board near the LCD that you gotta replace.

or is this a generic/standard product/part ?

mailed HCL with the same and requested for part.

generic one's are costing ~1k over ebay..

if searched for hcl inverter then its around 1.5k

but most importantly, i must test the one that i have to confirm it is dead..

edited: i guess i have to buy a backlight lamp to test it

any other methods ?

update:

HCL called and told me that i can purchase it from Mumbai Central. They will call me back with details on availability and address.

pricing is 950+taxes which is fine considering pricing over ebay for generic FL Inverters. HCL Specific ones are costing around 1.5k over ebay.

now need to find someone in Mumbai Central who has time to buy, test and ship it to me
