A good idea would be to get a travel card. These are visa/mastercard branded cards that you prepay for when you buy them. The rates + fees seem to work out much better than using an international credit/debit card.

^ Any particular bank's cards you would suggest? I see that ICICI and SBI both have Travel Cards, but in US and GBP currencies. However, since I will be visiting Singapore and Malaysia, I wonder if the double conversion - INR to USD and USD to MYR / SGD would prove to be costlier than the current conversion rates.

i visited malaysia a few yrs ago. the cities i visited were kl and langkawi. as far as hotels are concerned, in kl, we stayed at the mandarin oriental which is right next to the petronas towers and klcc. i personally found the location to be amazing and the hotel was great. in langkawi, we opted for the four seasons resort which was only a week old then. it is one of the best hotels ive ever stayed in.

personally for me, genting is highly avoidable. i didnt like it much. we went there only for the day. we also visited sunway lagoon in kl for a day to use their water park. that was also nothing great.

Bumping up thread. Thanks guys for all the inputs so far. The day has come :D

Any last moment suggestions on shopping Kuala Lumpur or Singapore in terms of discounts? Where to buy of these two places!
