DOTA 2 will be Free to Play according to Valve

[font=helvetica, arial, verdana, sans-serif]Upcoming MOBA game DOTA[/font] 2 [font=helvetica, arial, verdana, sans-serif]will be free-to-play (F2P), but with "some twists", according to Valve and Steam boss Gabe Newell.[/font]

Newell said :

[font=helvetica, arial, verdana, sans-serif]"It's going to be free-to-play - it'll have some twists, but that's the easiest way for people to think about it"[/font]

[font=helvetica, arial, verdana, sans-serif]Speaking to Seven Day Cooldown, Gabe Newell explained that Valve is trying to invent a unique system that will reward "valuable" players, while punishing the "jerks" that destroy the game for everybody else, something like the League of Legends Tribunal.[/font]

[font=helvetica, arial, verdana, sans-serif]"The issue that we're struggling with quite a bit is something I've kind of talked about before, which is how do you properly value people's contributions to a community?[/font]

[font=helvetica, arial, verdana, sans-serif]We're trying to figure out ways so that people who are more valuable to everybody else [are] recognized and accommodated, We all know people where if they're playing we want to play, and there are other people where if they're playing we would [rather] be on the other side of the planet."[/font]

I personally think Gabe Newell is talking about something like the League of Legends Tribunal, in which lvl 30 players can judge if a player was misbehaving, intentionally feeding (dying) or simply was AFK during a match. Players who get reported after a game are judged by thousands via the tribunal and their fate is decided thereafter. A player can get banned that way from playing the game (after three strikes).

Till it releases to all on steam (currently in closed beta), keep drooling over this DOTA 2 trailer, which released last year at Gamescon.

DOTA 2 should be out this year (you never know with valve).
