:( Hi I am posting in this forum after a long time.

I have a Compaq CQ40 laptop and a western digital 1TB MY Book essential edition. Well my adapter for the hard disk stopped working and in a fit of stupidity I purchased a local adapter from Nehru place.

I had both of them connected to an anchor spike guard when something happened and my laptop and the hard disk adapter conked out.

1. Western Digital is going to provide me with an adapter as my hard disk was within warranty. However in case my hard disk also has been damaged if I ask them for a new hard disk will they restore the data also. If not any ideas on how much they might charge.

2. This is a little far fetched but the wait for the adapter is killing me as I don't know if my hard disk is working or not. Any forum members close to Qutab Institutional area who would be willing to loan me a adapter for 5 minutes just to check my disk.

Pizza party on me if someone is willing.

Thanks

Raj

They are not going to restore the data. But wait for the adapter to arrive and see if everything is alright or not.

Edit: Worst case scenario, crack open the case and take out the drive and put it in your PC to check if it's working or not. But you'll lose warranty! So use this as a last resort.

Thanks..

Mercifully although my lappy is kaput the harddisk is working...so still happy had a lot of stuff...Now to wait for the adapter to arrive.
