Hi guys

A teesny doubt. I only have a 40 gig HDD.But i download a LOT. so i burn my downloads on DVDs.

Is it true that it is better if i burn more than 1gb at one go (on a multi-sessioned dvd)?

Thanks in advance

Vince

I found that I could not burn more than around 9 sessions on one DVDR - no matter the amount of data. There was space on the DVDR but the indexing area (or whatever it is called) of the media gets full after 9 sessions.

So 1 GB at a go would mean you would fill up the DVDR in 5 sessions - I dont think you should have a problem.

Actually...I remember that a CD can have a max of 99 tracks and not more than that... Similarly a DVD can have a maximum session depending on the media and format (+R or -R)... DVD+R can support 154 while DVD-R supports 169. Although it very much depends on the drive fro reading and writing... Most of the time anything above hundred can cause problems reading..... But then 10-20 sessions is pretty normal on both +R and -R..... I have done a maximum of 25 sessions...

One more thing the +R camp mentions, that data retrieving from sessions is better in their format. But who knows if the alliance is correct or not...

As much as I remember those werent readable in Win 98, but all of those worked fine in WinXP...

This is what I was talking about - check the image - I made 9 sessions with only 88 video files and have got 1460mb free - yet if I try write more sessions I get a disk full error. I have done this many times with same results - I was doing these multi sessions when I was checking out some overspeeding methods and testing various firmwares for my BENQ 1640 writer. I use only MB +R media.
